Yes, I've seen it on the web, before. I recall THOSE EXACT pictures!!
Chrome Bezels!! I don't know any longer.
Too confusing! I don't think THEY knew, either. Whenever I see
a 84 85 or 86 RS I look in and it's got charcoal/black bezels. Everyone
you find me has chrome.
Maybe the cars destined to New Jersey were the ones ones that got charcoal ones. Part of New Jersey Package ? _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

I noticed that he is listing it as a GS too.
BTW, I also know of another one owner '85 5.0L that came with chrome bezels & switch covers.
It must have been an issue at DAP that caused these cars to get the chrome ones. Possibly the build code for the charcoal bezels wasn't entered into the build computer by mistake and this caused several cars to have the wrong bezels installed. I would bet that if it was happening to the Mustang GT's it would have been caught and corrected. Maybe the fact that it was a Mercury product, it wasn't considered odd that it had chrome bezels being installed so it was overlooked.
When I had my '93 Lightning, I was on a message board that at the time was about the size of this one so it also was nice and managable. The real neat thing was that there was a regular member of the board who worked at Ford and was actually involved with the 1st gen. Lightning program from day one. He was our go to guy for wierd questions that really couldn't be answered by anybody but someone like him. And if he didn't know the answer, he knew someone else at Ford that would know. Everyone was always very courtious to him and it never got out of hand to where anyone was pestering him with mundane questions.
All of us learned a lot of interesting info about our trucks that wouldn't have been possible without an inside source like that.
This is of course not to imply in any way that Sandy hasn't been a huge source of knowledge and information concerning our cars. But in a situation like the bezels, it would really help if we had someone here that was an assembly supervisor or worked directly on the Capri back in the day. Then we could most likely put to rest some of these lingering questions.

This may sound stupid, but it's really not, if you go beyond the obvious.
I learned a while ago, that when you sell a special car, you DO lose control of it.
I sold a special 1986 (other brand) collectible car. The man I sold it to was JuMpIn' crazy over it. Paid me my asking price, and swore he'd take it to bed with him! He was going to keep it, as I did, drive it only to & from car shows, keep it perfect in every regard.
I felt good not only that I got my price, but moreso because of the care & appreciation he showed for the car. I knew it was going to a like owner, as myself.
14 months later, it showed up on the used car lot of a Mitsubishi dealer in Pittsburg, Pa. with it's hood emblem torn off, and a door ding in the driver's door. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Same thing happened to my grandpops mint 71 Mach 1. Sold the car locally and the guy kept it real nice then that guy sold it locally and the car was crap in a matter of weeks...

My story is along those same lines, though not as sad, since the car wasn't all that exclusive or that old. I had a 1997 Cobra that I had purchased new and had only a few years. When I traded it in, it had 17,000 miles on it and was still pristine.
A year later, I saw that it was back on the very same car lot, this time with 37,000 miles on it and beat to hell. It really bummed me out. _________________ Robert

'Ya, it's nuts. People buy them BECAUSE they are so purr-fect, and frequently they are more than willing to pay a premium for them, and they then proceed to turn them in "typical" well-used - used cars. I love my own made up anology between that and the guy that finds the original Mona Lisa painting, pays billions for it - and then procedes to "Colorize" it! _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012.
