Thanks for the many updates and photos. Seeing the late '70s Cougar warmed my heart. Your website is outstanding.

Hi, Jori - long time since I "saw" you.....

SAD NEWS. In the USA, Mercury is dying....almost all gone!
Grand Marquis for 2009 will be identical to 2008, in every respect....BUT, buyers will not see any on dealer's lots. Why? Dealers are not allowed to order any FOR INVENTORY ! Only SOLD Grand Marquis will arrive to dealers!! 'Ya wanna see one ? BUY IT ! 2009 is THE last year for the full sized Mercury.
2010 will see the end of the Sable, and possibly the Mariner (the small SUV)
I ubnderstand that Mountaineer ends in 2011 along with the Milan.

What exactly is going to happen with the dealer franchise is yet unknown. Ford dealers for the most part do not have the showrooms and the aura to attract the Lincoln buyer, nor do most Ford dealers WANT Lincoln!
Most Lincoln - Mercury dealers cannot make it, financially, on just sales of Lincolns. So, there is ALOT of unknowns.

You might wanna order a 2009 overloaded Grand Marquis LS for good times in the future.
Buy it in the NEW color for 2009, so it looks like a 2009. Laughing

Hi!
Nice to hear You Sandy!
You are right.
I was just in Chicago, Denver and Santa Fe and I saw a lot Japanese cars. The situation is almost like in Finland. People wants to buy "made in somewhere fareaway in East" cars.
I really dont like this style because we know in Finland what happens after few years when they have enough markets.

I bought two new cars from Denver:
-Mercury Grand Marquis GS, 1997 model. 62.000 miles on it
-Mercury Cougar XR7, 1996 model, 74.000 miles on it.
and also
-Ford F350 Truck with 460 cid engine with Paxton Blower.(This car comes later - end of this year)

In Finland the fuel is 9,5 dollar/gallon....I dont care!!!!
I like style, good quality, safety and etc....
Who cares about economy after one big accident. I dont like to drive with little "made in somewhere fareaway in East" car and after accident I´m history. I dont like to give this Korea cars to my wife, daughter and etc..
Who really wants to do that...
Thats what I think about Japanese and Chines and Korea cars!!!!
For me Mercury Lives Forever and I only use Mercurys. If they stop made Mercurys I start use the old ones.

Sandy, I´ll hope you feeling better and the cancer is away?
Jori

i drive one of the made far far away in the west (on this side of the earth) cars and i like them. thats only because i have never had any problems with anything. 180,000 miles. i do like the XR7 but you should have got a town car not the marquis. they are almost the same car but the town car is so much nicer.

Yes the town car would be better but there was not town cars for sale when I was in Denver. I think the Grand Marquis is enough for me.

I have also one Jaguar from 1977. It is like it was....original. It takes a lot of gasoline and the electric works (Lucas) are not good.
Volvo and Saab are made in Sweden...sorry! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
(People in Finland loves Swedish, heh, heh... ) We are neighbors and we are always like a loving dog and cat.
I have driven before with big 740 series BMW but not anymore. I sold my last one few years ago. It was 2000 model 745 iA and after 100.000 miles it was broken very bad.
We use European cars here in Finland mostly but the thing that I try to say is that I dont like the cars which are made in South Korea (Daewood = Chevrolet, Hundai, Suzuki etc...), or somewhere there. These cars are like toys and not safety. Volvo and Saab are very safety cars as you know

Times are changing for sure. There was talks about Hummer, Buick, and Pontiac folding for sometime as well as Mercury. Plymouth and Oldsmobile have been history. Talks of Chrysler selling off the Viper. Aside of the Korean cars only Toyota and Honda are doing well. The rest are in the same boat as us. Now with the big three asking for govt bailouts (hey might as well with all the other companies in line might as well bankrupt the rest of the country lol) who knows what is going to happen. To bad our govt doesnt protect the interest or well being of the working class as well as our business, try starting with balanced import/ exports. We sold ourselves out like prostitutes to other countries and for what? Sad times indeed.
