I wear safety glasses for work as well. I hate them almost as much as the next guy. Shop around and find a pair that fit well and are least annoying. I'll tell you right now it's not going to be the ones for $2.99. I found some nice ones at a screw and hardware supplier for $8.00. Make a real effort to use them and before long they will become second nature. Now add a bunny suit, face mask and gloves and it gets to be a inconvience

OSHA showed up at my shop today. they said its a $1500 fine for each guy with out them. why cant it just be by choice?

has anyone delt wiht OSHA in the past?

I think everyone else has answered your questions Peter, but my 2 cents...

There are many jobs out there I would want to always have safety glasses on, that being said, OSHA has lost all common sense. I've been to many places - plant tour (where were no machines running or anything dangerous) and a finished building that I was doing a final punch list for that I had to wear glasses. Those two examples were beyond stupid, you can thank lawsuits an lawyers for that. The fines are pretty hefty if the employer doesn't follow the rules to a T. In the construction field, I've literally heard and seen instances when the OSHA inspector shows up on site, they spread the word like wildfire and the entire jobsite take a "break" and stops working (until they leave). Here is a good example - technically by the rules, you have to be "tied off" if you are on a scaffolding that is 4 feet off the ground. And those harnesses in many cases hinder the worker from getting his task done. There are quite a few "rules" that fall under this ridiculous category.....

Choice? Very Happy , we can't be trusted to take care of ourselves, we're all too stupid.... Laughing Isn't it nice to be protected and taken care of?!

As Ron White would say, "you can't fix stupid".......
