Yep, the owner is a member here. Awesome car, too bad it's an auto. |
Hows it going? Had not spoke to you in a month of Sundays!!!
You know we can mount you a dummy clutch pedal up!
Seriously though, I have got someone here that's looking at mine pretty hard, damn hard to let go when it's 75 & Sunny out. Sherie & I have been swamped since we opened our business, we are only looking at doing 4-5 shows this year.
Talk to you soon,
Jim |
Let me tell you, I would have bought that coupe from you years ago if it was a 5-speed. |

Considering the sale of my 86 euro, gray, t tops, auto, cruise, power windows, locks, fuel door, hatch release, etc. The car is currently rust free in pieces, but I have a ton of new stuff from Hank...head/tail covers, front air dam, steering wheel, rear valence, hella fogs, fiberglass wing. Don't really know how much to ask, but the parts alone are close to $3k. _________________ 2018 F150 S'crew

Jim,
your car still looks amazing! All this chatter has got me excited. I have not been out to the car shop in some time, I think I will take some ASC's out today, for a nice spin, been a while.

Have no way to prove this, and they could have been aftermarket, but I recall seeing a black Coupe at Krug LM in Dearborn in June 1986 with t-tops and cruise, not wanting a car with either, I passed on the unit. |

That was very correct & obtainable. The dealer I bought my '86 coupe at had a black/silver coupe with T-Tops.
There was a dealer-only heads up, pointing out, to point out to those ordering a car, that adding cruise control, deleted the ascMcLaren steering wheel. Dealers were told to show and explain such to those ordering cruise. I have never seen a '86 Coupe WITH Ford installed cruise, becasuse of that heads-up note. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

I do recall the car had factory cruise because I wanted the ASC wheel and it had the Cougar cat-emblem wheel.
I recall;l it had some other anomalies too, like no ASC/McLaren logo over the Mercury on the grill, etc. I think it had 60 series tires too. It was also scratched to high heaven and looked unsaleable.
Wonder what happened to it?? |

10 to 1 the ascMcLaren nameplate overlay fell off in transit -OR- was stolen off of it, once on the ground at the dealer.
I never was smart enough to get a copy of the "Dealer Memo" (what they were called) regarding the speed control. Dealers were coaxed to NOT order it, as literature showed the ascMcLaren steering wheel pad and buyers would not get that - IF - they ordered speed control.
It told dealers that if a retail order by a consumer was to contain Speed Control as an option, that said dealer MUST explain to the buyer that they would not be getting the ascMcLaren horn pad, nor the leather wrapped rim. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Do you have the Cougar Steering Wheel, with the small black/silver round disc of the Cougar's head in the wheel's center?? _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

I had a 87 wheel recovered and bought a horn pad from Hank. I also have a NOS cruise control contact plate for the wheel. Best of both worlds...A McLaren horn pad with cruise. _________________ 2018 F150 S'crew

Pete & Eric, do you both have cruise control?
I had totally & completely forgotten - but now it does come back vividly yo me that the Mclaren Coupes (Full pkg'ed or Euro) that I saw with cruise, DID HAVE the Cougar Steering Wheel ! At first, I though it to be a factory boo-boo but as i peered into windows of ascMcLarens at OTHER dealerships on Sundays, that had our cars, again & again I noted Cougar steering wheels on cruise control cars.
I never did find out why....BUT there has to be SOME reason, I am positive of it. I've seen cruise on 1986 Capris (non ascMclaren) and they all have the correct Capri-cruise wheel.... ?!!!!!!!!!! _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.
