I'm trying to install a new CD player/XM Radio in an '85 McLaren Convertible (please don't flame me..the old stereo was not original anyway..lol). Of Course, I've run into the "common speaker ground" problem. No biggie, I'll run new wires. However, I have NO IDEA how to wire the headrest speakers (yes, they still work) on the Recaro Seats. It appears to have a 4 wire plug, connected under the seat, but I'm not sure about the color coding. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, is this worth the trouble, or will I blow out these speakers fairly quickly with a modern high-power stereo (no amp)? Should I just mount some speakers in the back as I've seen many people do? The headrest speakers are just SO COOL...hate to lose them...Thanks for any help in advance.

It should be pretty easy to figure out the wiring. There is no mention of it in the Recaro manual.

The speakers are wired seperate with 2 wires to each. Take one wire and connect it to the speaker output at the radio. Find another one of the 3 left which gives you some audio output. Next you need to fing the polarity +/-. Just switch the two wires until you have the loudest volume and you will have it wired correctly. Usually black or other dark colors are -. Red and green are usually +. I don't recall what colors are on the plug. As for the left and right channels, you can figure that out with the balance controls. The two wires left are for the other channel. Repeat.
