Damn! I was very close to say about the mirror but was not sure. This car is full of mistakes. _________________ 87 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 cabriolet(sold)

Same here. My '88 has the door mounted "traditional" power vert mirrors. _________________ 1988 ASC McLaren #709 |

The door mirrors came halfway through the years production, didn't they? _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/darkhorse40/

Correct. Those mirrors did come out halfway through the year or when the 87 A pillar style were all used. My 88 is an early build and most of the stuff on her (headlights, console, brake lights, etc) are stamped 1987.
I like the 89 style better but from what I heard get damaged a lot easier. _________________ Mike

Sandy wrote: | Okay..... 99% of what you all pointed out, is very good & yu all were correct. BUT, the biggest boo boo staring right at you is that it is called a 1988 -but, it is wearing a 1989/1990 exterior mirror ! Mounted ON THE DOOR, and NOT on the "A"-pillar !!! I say it's a 1989 MUSTANG door from the junk yard. This car belongs at "Hal Wheeler's"
PS/ It wears a 5.0 on the front fender, so that's probably off the same
Mustang Doner car.[b] |
Sorry Sandy. Thats not a "boo boo". There are quite a few '88s with the door mounted mirrors, mine being one of them. Owned since new. Unless elve snuck into my garage and put '89 doors on it. This subject has come up many times on here about the '88s and the mirrors. I've made it known that a high number of '88s do have these.
There are quite a few problems with this white '88, everyone has picked out a good list to be wary of if buying this. I don't know how many ASCs I've come across that have parts from a GT (IMHO to save money on parts after a wreck).
Pete! Thats an awesome looking car you posted a picture of! _________________ 1988 ASC McLaren #688 |

Okay I just got home and I stand corrected. I have NEVER seen (in person) a 1988 with Power Mirrors, always remote control, attached to the "A" pillar!
You guys with power mirrors on your 1988s, do you know if they were
* Standard Equipment after a certain date?
* Optional Equipment from Ford - over & above the remote ??
*Standard equipment AFTER a certain date ???
* Only available at extra cost on "D32" coded cars ????
* Standard Equipmen but only on D32 Coded cars ????? _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Sandy, I'd like to answer all of those questions for you, but not sure how to find the answers.
One other thing about many '88s, mine also has the "newer" design console vs. the typical '87 style. I know many '88s have one or the other. Tape storage area has the hinge in the back for opening, not the side. _________________ 1988 ASC McLaren #688 |
