Mike,
The M-12127-A303 is a mechanical advance distributor, in the box you should have a sheet from Ford showing how the distributor was set up ( how the timing curve was set), there also should be a bag of different colored springs, to allow you to alter how quick and when the distributor advances. It has a cast gear, not a steel. The steel gear from a 85 distributor will fit it. I had one in a 85 5.0 Coupe, loved it.

No springs or sheet in the box...the steel gear from an 85 dizzy won't fit as the shaft if bigger than this one...
I was also thinking that I can add a vacuum advance but I'd probably end up ruining things....
Ahhh the joys of car parts. It looks like I'm probably just going to toss it on ebay.

If the gear from your 85 will not fit, it is a 351W distributor. The fuel injected 5.0 (302) and 351W have the same inside diameter dizzy gear.

The books say its for a 302/289 (I found it last night in my 1985 book). It is for a duraspark setup.
I measured the shaft and from what I was told it is the thin shaft dizzy with the cast iron gear. It will work (and is made for) a 302 but not a roller engine...which requires the steel gear.
The shaft on my 85 carbed roller (I was told) will be thicker and the gear won't fit. I need to buy the steel gear for a thin shaft dizzy and then it will work....unless somebody makes a shim for a fat shaft steel gear to fit on this 303A thin shaft dizzy.
This is all too dizzy for me.

The 1985 5.0 carbureted Mustang/Capri use a small shaft size with a steel gear, It is a one year only gear! If you go to; www.car-part.com and run a distributor for a 1985 Capri carbureted 5.0, it only interchanges with 1985. I have found a lot of aftermarket listings do not highlight the 85 as a unique year.

Intersting....well you're the only one to say this. Everyone else is saying otherwise.
Btw, I don't see how to do the search...all I get are wrecking yards.

LOL......I have always said......... "Any idiot can build a Chevy ............. but you really have to know what you are doing to build a Ford"
I never understood why Ford likes to change its engine parts so much......
5 bolt bellhousings, 6 bolt bellhousings, 3 bolt harmonic balancers, 4 bolt harmonic balancers, different firing orders for cars and trucks, and now different distributors......... It never ends........
I give up!!!!!..........Does anyone know of an adapter kit to bolt a 5hp Briggs and Stratton engine up to a toploader 4speed...... _________________ Beware the lollipop of mediocrity

NICE PICS, TOM !!
I kinda thought you had given up on adding new pics,
but I see you saved them them all stored away, waiting....
Pic #386 on the 1984-1986 Capri Convert. *IS* THE
first ascMcLaren ever made !! Hand made by
Barracuda Industries, for Jubbu, Inc. It's actually
made on a 1982 Mustang 2-Door Sedan, and was the
car taken to FoMoCo(S) Ford Division, who
laughed at it, saying, we're bringing out our own
convertible, don't need that one, and sent
Muscat over to Mercury Division. History Rest
or sumpin' like that..... _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.
