Hi all, my name is Don, Im 43 and I live in London England. Ive been a Fox Mustang owner for 25 years now and currently have a 1982 GT, 1985 SVO and a 1991 LX as my daily. I also share 3 Fox's with my buddy Steve, we have a 1979 Pace Car, 1980 Cobra and a 1981 RHD T Top.
I had never seen a Mclaren Mustang or Capri over here before until a couple of weeks ago when this one appeared on Ebay. Its a 1987 car and from what I can gather it has been in the UK since at least 1996. Its a barn find just like the one in France on here was, strange coincidence eh?!
Ive not even seen the car yet but I have bought it and will hopefully be picking it up sometime this week. The current owners ( a car breakers yard!) dont know too much about the car, they are assuming that the previous owner parked it up due to the expense of fuel here. I have an idea though that it may have been parked up due the roof being damaged. Hopefully I can find out more when the car comes home.
Heres a couple of pictures, I will post some more soon!

I'd like to own a British car, as well.
I have an aqutance who has a 2010 Bently Convertible in a beautiful light blue metallic with a dark blue cloth roof and the leather interior is 100-percent leather, all in soft pastel Ivory-yellow. Only $200,000.00 !
Yup. I'd like to have one of those British Cars too !! _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

thank you for the welcome gents, Im hoping the car will be turning up either today or tomorrow, very excited as Ive never even seen one of these great cars in the flesh!
as to the British cars, its a true shame we do not have a major motor industry left in this country now, I actually work for Ford UK in Dagenham where we make diesel engines for our cars, but all of the cars are now made in mainland Europe |

I have owned a variety of English cars. MGA, MGB, Austin-Healy.
Thay all have their idiosycrisies and problems.
The English, in my opinion, were 20 years behind the US auto industry in heat treating and preventing leaks. Eons ahead of us in brakes. You soon learned when to replace the pads in the braking systems, before major problems and costs. My 66 MGB had fuel injection. Never had a problem. But when it rained, you needed rubber boots on your feet! MGA's too. But they were fun to drive.
The Austin-Healy was an electrical nightmare for months! Finally found it was a shut off switch, in the trunk, that was shorting out. |

Morning all!
well, she finally arrived last night and is now sitting in my garage. It seems she was last on the road in 2002 so Ive got to have a look into why this is.
She did fire up yesterday but died again pretty quickly, the fuel gauge is below empty so that may have something to do with it!
So far the list of problems to sort out are, fuel pump running constantly as soon as battery is connected, drivers side window doesnt work, bootlid actuator doesnt work, alarm keeps going off, and the roof defintely needs replacing.
It looks like the car has stood with the window down for some time as the inside is filthy and was covered in dead leaves!
The LE badge is missing so I have no idea which number the car is but maybe thats traceable via the VIN?
it also has some damage to one mirror and unfortunatley a big lump missing out of the windscreen moulding.
Im having a half day at work today so will be finishing very soon and spending some time working through the problems, Ill post some more pictures up later today.
In the meantime, if anyone on here uses Facebook, me and my buddy Steve have our own UK Fox Mustang page on there called Fox Doctors UK, feel free to come and have a look! |

Thanks for the reply Sandy, I can see the car has been re-repainted so Im hoping it was done to the original, it matches in the door shuts so thats ok!
Ive had her running, good news is she sounds ok, bad news is the alternator isnt charging (ive 'borrowed' one off one of the other cars for now!) and the heater core is leaking. I managed to get all of the dash out last night and put a new one in but still have plenty left to do. While things are all apart though it will give me a chance to have a good clean up, the interior really is grubby!

Mustangs and heater cores
Make sure you have the restricter in the heater hose so NOT to blow out the new heater core |

If you will post (or e-mail me the McLaren's last 6 digits of the VIN I can absolutly tell you what the dash plaque was. American Sub Roof Corporation made the cars from 1984 thru 1986 on the Mercury Capri. There were NO 1987 Capris, so they switched to the Ford Mustang'
479 were made for 1987
1,015 were made for 1988
247 were made for 1989 and
0065 were made for 1990.
There were 2 SPECIAL EDITIONS for 1990.
One was called the Snowball Edition, which was a white exterior paint, a white vinyl convertible roof, white leather seats, headrests, door panels and center armrest. The 1989/1990 style wheels were alao made in white.
The carpet, & dash pad were medium gray. 2 of these were made.
A friend own s 1 of the 2.
In addition there was a 25th Anniversary Edition, celebrating the Mustang's 25th year AND ASC's 25th year in business !
It had Silver Pearl Exterior paint and Scarlet Red Interior. The cars were to get, matching cloth-weave convertible roof, in light grey (Matching the paint color), so silver over silver, with chrome wheels & Scarlet Red interior.
H O W E V E R ......The Light Grey roof FAILED FADE TESTING. Therefore,
they could not use the Light Grey Cloth roof. 2 such cars were made, and kept inside the building, awaiting their roofs. In the end, MY car got a black cloth top and the other car got a dark red (burgundy) that ASC called Deep Claret cloth roof. (Clashed terribly with the Fire Red Interior)
On the side of the cars, just behind the front wheel cutout on the lower side is a plaque, that ssays 25th Anniversary Edition. Black background raised chrome lettering in a chrome frame 4" x 2". Two were made.
Send me your last 6 #s of VIN And I will shoot you your sequence of build number.
