Does anybody have any advice on finding the Stebel Junior compressor or a direct fit replacement? I'd like to get the original, but I know that might be easier said than done.

They cough up once and a while on ebay.

There are "knock offs" of the Stebel Junior that they made back in the 80's or so. They are a direct replacement and look exactly the same. There may be an oil inlet in the top (yellow).

Look for something like "Super Big Blast" air horns or something...

Wait...here it is:
http://www.ascmclarencoupe.com/ascParts/Anes_Air_Horns2.jpg

Anes branded but a direct rip off of the Stebel Junior compressor. The ones made earlier than 1985 had the yellow oil inlet on the top. The ones after 1985 (in our cars) had no oil inlet and used graphite for lubricant (my best guess).

I stopped looking for the "Anes" horns but have been watching for the Stebel ones and haven't seen any in over a year on ebay.

Oh, yeah, do NOT go by the box picture! Anes, swapped compressors around like anything. I have seen the same box of horns with a totally DIFFERENT compressor. If you find one, ask whats in the box.

Also, if you get a set from Hank in Florida, they will be the "Riviera" ones which are not the same. I think they will fit in the same spot but am not too sure....the Rivieras have a different bracket.

I have a Riviera set I bought from Hank...new in the plastic...with all hoses and relays. If you give up trying to find the others and want them, I will sell them far cheaper than what Hank asks.

Did ALL asc cars get air horns? (87-90 too?)

Were they ALL Stebel Junior? Or do the later ones maybe have the Riviera Horns?

Anybody know?

My 87 has them, but I'm not sure about the others. From memory, my brackets look identical to the ones in the pic you posted. I'll look again when I get home.

1987 Mustang McLarens had them and 1988s until the existing supply at ascMcLaren was used up. An educated guess would be about 150 of the 1,015 1988s. NO 1989s nor 1990s, as well as AT LEAST 75% of the 1988s had the Air Horns.

I just checked out mine when I saw this thread, I forgot about the air horn. Looks like I need to get the compressor as well. I have the horn in place but its not hooked up to anything, oh well. Confused

Kyle, got the list out, so... 615388 Smoke Grey with BLACK tapework (a 1-off) was recieved at ascMcLaren on June 23rd '86 and was shipped out on June 25th. It was converted on the 24th.

Thats cool, I don't suppose you know the dealership it went to by chance, at least the state? I would like to track down the original owner and find out why the interior was swapped.

ascMcLaren kept many DIFFERENT lists (sadly) ~ it would have been better for us if all available info was on ONE LIST! The only year that I have the name of the recieving dealer is for 1988. Even then, not the state, allthough through the years, I have penciled in about 50% of those states.

I have a list also of what states ascMcLarens were "Strong" in & what states they were "weak" in. That for 1989.
