OK, so the the next problem I have encountered is that the interior lights (in the rear view mirror) will not turn off even when the doors are closed. I rotated the light switch knob and that didn't make a difference.

I just replaced the heater core, so I had the dash and steering column apart. I'm wondering if I missed anything?

Have you tried flipping the white switch on the mirror?

Yes, I tried the switches and I opened both doors individually and tried the door jam switches.

I'm wondering if I unplugged one of the switches and that is making the circuit open??

OK,so I figured it out. I ordered new switches for the door jams and a new headlight switch. I have been replacing every switch or relay I could find thinking that a 30 year old car probably needed it.

Turns out the passenger side door jam switch was bad! It was actually bent and the plunger would push the connector end out of the housing and would never register as being closed. Now, I have NO idea how it could have gotten bent but it had to be like that since I got the car (just a few months) No wonder the battery was running down!?

So, the trick on those door jam switches is to install them and then shut the door. I picked that up on some feedback on LMR. The post is sticking out too far when you install it and it slides back inside the housing when you close the door to self adjust. Pretty cool.

Now, I can leave the battery attached!
