Need some help from an '88 owner with original suspension. '87 or '89 may be same too. Sitting on flat surface, I need to know the height from the ground at the center of wheel well opening for both front & back wheels ... either side. Trying to fix a suspension problem on mine.

I can take some measurements on Tuesday and get back to you. The Ford Manuals list the stock ride height but you want the post ASC modifications height.

Well, I never got any measurements from anyone but pressed on. We decided from a multitude of pictures I gathered online that the car was pretty much the original ride height. Just for comparison I measured an '85 LX in the local Mustang club at 26.5" at the front wheel well and 27.5" at the rear. We removed the butchered coils, etc on mine and adjusted those struts up a bit from their lowest setting. Bushings were also messed up and the rubber donut bottom-out stop was missing on one side. It rides a lot better now with no rattling from the loose coil-overs. It measures 24.75 at the front wheel well and 25.5 at the rear ...right at 2" lower than the '85 LX. That is the amount I recall someone saying that ASC lowered the cars. Why someone would spend big bucks on high end parts, and then butcher them like these were is beyond my understanding.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I just measured my wife's show car which is all original.

88 ASC Vert. Stock 20K miles
Rear fender well, 26 1/4"
Front fender well, 26 3/8"

89 LX Vert. Stock 145K miles
Rear fender well, 26 5/8"
Front fender well, 26 1/2"

85 ASC Vert. Stock 130K mles
Rear fender well, 26 1/2"/ 26" sagging on right
Front fender well, 26"

ASC used springs similar to the Ford Motorsport B springs which are still available from Ford Racing.

Those numbers show your wife's car just a tiny bit lower in the rear than the front, unlike either mine OR the '85 LX I measured. This is interesting. It would be nice to find the original specs somewhere. If that is the original factory height, mine is definitely lowered. I drove it quite a bit today to two events on some pretty rough roads and there is a vast improvement in how the front takes bumps ...much more like you would expect any car to perform.

Here is an old post. Sandy was usually pretty good about the subject at hand but sometimes the adjacent subject he had trouble with some details. Sandy went thru some really rough periods dealing with his illnesses and the meds did not give him a clear head some days. So, when there is conflicting info, give him some space and the answers will come with time.

This wasn't post I was looking for but it had some details.
