Basically there's nothing of any use on that car except - maybe - the tonneau cover. |

If only there was an ascMcLaren museum
The bright side is: if heavily rear-ended, the driver of a McLaren roadster won't be decapitated.

So, you are thinking that it is a factory crash test?? It looks like a lot of stuff has been stripped off of it, but if it was factory, then the car should have like zero miles on it and it would then be a good source for original parts??
I don't know why anyone would do a crash test after the fact, but it sure looks like it was a used car to begin with.. _________________ Dan

Well, the stickers are crash test stickers. Looks like they were applied before the crash. _________________ 1985 ascMcLaren Coupe - Midnight Blue

Interesting. Looks to be a rear end collision. This makes sense as the ASC re-enforcement would affect the rear end mostly. Up front, not much changed from Ford. Probably not very high speed. Bumpers were rated for 10 mph back then?
I wonder what was the cause of the fire damage up front? Maybe the charcoal canister?
So, is this one of 50 or 1 of 51? We should get the vin and put in the database. _________________ Kevin Gold card MCA Judge for Fox Body

The VIN and the backstory on how it got where it's at now would be interesting.

come to think about it--it would make sense (to me) if the factory stripped it of all the ASC stuff after a crash test. Why throw it all away? _________________ Dan

I have more pics.. Maybe someone can use something. Don't they usually smash any remaining stuff so it can't get in the hands of the public?.[img][URL=http://s86.photobucket.com/user/kwdan68/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_0024_zpskeqwxhhn.jpg.html]

Been contemplating the 'museum' idea for a while...though not sure it would generate much foot traffic.
But, actually considering this 84 if it can be validated as an asc crash test car....would really like to know the VIN.

I'm wondering about the "crash test" aspect of this vehicle. I work for Chrysler and I've seen them smash pilot builds so that no parts can reach the general public because Chrysler would be liable for any injuries resulting from those parts that got out. I wish Sandy could see this...😞 _________________ 1989 Royal Gold Metallic #095 (225Hp)

The windshield held up very well considering the impact. _________________ 1989 Royal Gold Metallic #095 (225Hp)

Funny the steering column is upside down. And maybe the hard plastic molding could still be good. The Car number is long gone with the dash. |
