I got this note from Riley Douthit <zooloman2001@yahoo.com>:
Quote: | I have an 85 mclaren that looks just like the one you
have built. It is not in the best condition butt I
would like for it to go to a better home. I have not
started it sence it took the dash out to replace the
heater core. the new heater core is in but I still
have not put the dash back together(I left home for
college). if you are interested go to yahoo groups,
look for ascmclaren club, go to photo. my mclaren is
in the folder called "wade's mclaren".

Unfortunately those pics are no longer accessible.
If anyone is interested they can contact this individual. I know nothing other than what was emailed to me.

OK, I had saved out those pictures and emailed him to verify that they were of his car.
The pictures are as follows:

I think I remember seeing that car for sale a while back. I guess if it runs, it might be OK for a daily driver. I see there are quite a few EXPENSIVE things that are tore up (steering wheel, air damn, and I am sure A LOT more)....

Look at the factory grill. It doesn't look right. Looks like one from an older capri. I am right?

I am going to say something here that I shouldn't, but you all can bash me later.
I asked the seller what he wanted for the car. I will not reveal the price I got quoted, well I might later, but it is TOO much. I bought my 85 for a cheaper price with not even half as many things wrong with it. And that included shipping. I don't like "knocking" other peoples cars, but it "ticks" me off why people think they can ask a price that is totally ridiculous. Or maybe it is not ridiculous. Maybe I just don't appreciate the value of the car. I don't know, but I always try to add up what it would take to initially fix it.
Example (Font valance fro Hank - $420 + tax + shipping + paint work + stripe kit + install). My gosh, are we talking about $1000 just to get the front valance back to originality. And you don't know if there isn't something wrong with the fromt bumper cover as well which we have all seen something else MUST have happened to this car since the grill had been replaced by an older model capri. (WHICH YOU CAN'T BUY NEW ANYMORE). And this is ONLY the front valance I pointed out, nothing more.
OK, I'll stop screaming now and go about my business.. Thank you all for listening. I feel better.

I told him flat out that it was too much (I was also told probably the same figure you were too $6k).
Honestly, he's not looking for blood or to find a sucker. He sounds like somebody who likes his car alot and thinks very highly of it....enough so to feel its worth $6k. Unfortunately that is the price its worth to him and I tried to let him know that to another buyer its worth much much less.

Yep,
That is the price he told me. Of course he told me he would come down some, but my version of coming down after estimating what needs to be fixed, is almost going straight from heaven to hell (in other words - there is quite some going down in that perspective)...
