Don't think you have to worry!
I had asked 4 people at ascMcLarern WHAT the SC stood for. Herewith the replies:-
Super Coupe (Then we realized it wasn't gonna be a coupe when we got done...
Supercharged (We were gonna do it, but....'ya know......
costs & warrantees got in the way.......)
Sun Chaser, 'Ya...that's it.... SUN CHASER !
Super Convertible
Special Convertible.....
(I think they just thought that SC looked good in keeping with the Mercedes Benz theme they had going on......) _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

They seemed to like the word "coupe". The "ascMcLaren Coupes" are not really coupes, they are hatchbacks.
I keep having to explain that one over at FEP....

I know what you mean. The terminology is all messed up today. Most people under the age of 40 have NO idea what a 4-Door Hardtop is/was, since the last one (1978 Imperial) rolled off the line 27 years ago, now. Since then, all 4-doors have been sedans. (Center Pillar Post framed windows -vs- no center pillar post and frameless door glass...)
VW calls their new luxury car the Phaeton. It's a 4-Dr Sedan. PHAETON means convertible, actually a 4-door convertible (4-port convertible). ANYTHING with 2 doors today is a coupe. Never mind if it's really a hatchback. The only 2-Door Hardtops come from Mercedes in their CLK class, all others are 2-Door Sedans, UNLESS they are hatchbacks. The correct terminology is getting all muddied up. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Beware of stuff Hank sells on ebay! It may not be NOS and could be a poor reproduction. The tonneau he sold to me was fiberglass, not the original hard black plastic used. Now, fiberglass would not have been all that bad, but the one shipped was a peice of junk; discolored, rips and ill fitting. After spending another $50 on shipping for a replacement, I got a new cover over the fiberglass, but with dimpiles, and not covering securely on the sharp corners. Then to top it all off, after mounting, it was obvious the contour of the fiberglass was uneven and did not fit properly. Unfortunately, no else has parts. Be careful and be willing to spend a fortune shipping back and forth! |

You are 100% correct. I wish he would pay a bit more attention to detail.
Alot of the stuff he has are repros now as the originals have dried up. I wish he would make that more known as alot of people think they are getting NOS.

Most suppliers will let you know up front it's a repo. People will pay good money for repo stuff if it is good quality and the NOS is hard to find (very expensive). Mustangs Unlimited has a habbit of posting the Ford part number on the repo stuff so you will assume it is NOS. Their prices are fair but I don't like being misled. They act all innocent when questioned. I'm all for the repo stuff as if keeps the hobby alive! _________________ Kevin Gold card MCA Judge for Fox Body

Another thing to remember about Hank's repros is that he probably only gets a very small number made up to replace his stock.
As such, Its tough to reproduce a small number of anything and keep prices to mortal levels while still maintain an acceptable degree of quality.

I think that the biggest problem is that Hank doesn't realize when he has sold the last "purple widget" ~ THEREFORE, he doesn't have 1 remaining sample to use to show to whomever is making up the new purple widgets. Most places can & will duplicate exactly, but they need an OEM to copy. Hank has sent me pics of parts asking if I knew where they went & what colors they came in. That vinyl applique that sits atop the hard tonneau cover, is a great example! Hank had some made up in Oxford White. I asked him "Why?" ~ He said he thought that they came in white, for cars with white leather interior. NO. He also did some black. NO, they didn't come in black, either. So if Joe Blow has a black McLaren, with Black interior, his tonneau applique is gonna be gray. Now if it gets trashed, & Hank send him a Black one, Jow Blow is gonna hollar!
I beleive that they came in Scarlet, Gray, Sand Beige & Blue. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Yeah, I can believe it.
I asked him if he had underhood insulator pads for the Capris....
He said he sold the last one before he realized he was all out and then couldn't get any more. DOH!

If 'ya ever find a source for them, let me know too. I'd like to repalce mine. It's the only shabby looking part of the Coupe. (Oops, Hatchback). You know, they rub against the top of the engine, and that is what makes them look worn. Had they made them like 1/2 inch thinner, I believe that they'd look much nicer, much longer. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

I have a source for some "OK" repros...but none for the originals. The repros are ok if you have nothing at all.
Someday I may start looking again but I have given up for now.
I located the 1985 Mustang pad thinking it was the same and it wasn't....I was so disappointed.

Why would they make the Mustang one different? What is different? Geeez, the door skins are the same, the frame, the door windows and so much else, a minor thing like the underhood pad they made different ??? _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.
