Any thoughts on this one -- other that the outrageous price!

Are these the original seats? Just the non-recaro ones?

My thoughts are that it's very nice & I think it's worth pretty close to the asking price. If you saw all the butcher-jobs, over 100,000 mile cars out there for $12 thou, then I trust you'd agree with me.

The seats are the originals, recovered as he says. The recaros were indeed OPTIONAL ($1,765.00) beginning with the 1986 'Verts.

This appears to be an UNmolested almost all original example.

especially with 60k and recovered seats...

I've given a little though to selling my 1986. What holds me back, is that I've learned the hard way that when it's "sold" ~ it IS sold, and no lomger yours ... now while easy for others, it's a hard concept for me to understand. My cars are like my children, well sorta kinda. I've invested alot of time & effort to keep her as was "Day-1" and money too, in car jacket bags, and covers and other protection measures regarding "little animals" ~ As long as it's mine, it remains a historical book of what's correct, a text book study ~ If sold, it becomes ... well, whatever the new owner wants it to become....
I've had tele calls from all over the world, ( I kid 'ya not) asking me to look at & eyeball how something on the car was done or made by ascMcLaren as they are trying to resore one. What if mine was customized. No body goes out to have an accident. How many car accidents take place every single day? Look in your phone book's Yellow Pages, under Body Shops. See how many are there? They are all making $$$ too ! You've never seen a body shop close to become a .99 cents store, have you?

So, whenever I think about selling it....I gringe. Ditto the 2 'Verts.

Dang, $21k. I love my car, but if someone offered me half of that $21k for it, I would take it.

I'm going to go look at this one tomorrow. I spoke to the owner today and he claims to be the original owner and has all the original paperwork/documentation.

But I don't think it's worth 21K. It sounds like it was his wife's driver since it was new and then he started using it as a weekend car for the past few years. So it's been out in the rain alot and driven around town (in Clearwater).

I wish it had Recaros and the Performance Decor pkg....

I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Took a look at this one today. It's the real deal.

Very nice car. Paint is orginal and in very good shape. No Rust anywhere! Wheels are almost perfect. Engine has typical 5.0 leaks but better than most I've seen w/ 60k miles. Not the original Kenwood radio but a replacement. Interior in very good shape and has floormats

Really nothing at all needs to be done to this car. Still expensive though!

I took a couple of pics if anybody wants them. I can't figure out how to post them... But they're similar to the ones on the link.

The 86s mostly got Alpines. Is this an Alpine radio?

I think if it bothered the new owner a correct Alpine could be located.
Let's - for a momenmt - imagine it was allready your car, and I wanted to buy it from you. What would you want for it ?

When I was in the used car business I learned & saw ALOT. Trust me on this: 90% of all people DO NOT take religous care of their car, either mechanicly nor cosmeticly. If a 5 year old car, has seen 25 washes in its life...that's ALOT! They eat, smoke and drink in the cars, & yes they spill the drinks, and burn the seats! Most cars are shot and/or badly worn by age 5.
Today, we have a new breed. THE LEASERS. "Hey, screw it - it ain't mine, I'm getting a new one in 30 months, anyhow." When I was at new car dealers, it was common place to see cars come in, fresh off of lease, (30 month) with 50 - 60 thou miles on the odo. Know what? Put her up in the air and she'wearing her assembly line installed oil filter !!
The average used car today, older than 3 years old, is a bucket of crap.

SOoooooooooo, when a car like this McLaren comes along, with documented miles, and just reaks of care & attention, with a flawless body and seats and is, holy God.... 20 years old.....

First WE have to pay thru the nose for it..... and
Second WE DON'T drop price. No haggling, period.

So, that explained, you say this is a stand up car, and I'd agree.
The old adage, Cheap is seldom good and good is seldom cheap and
'ya get what ya pay for, really DOES come into play.

I'd offer $15,500 and go up from there. Few VERY few are the seller that doesn't know what they've got. Yes, they know when they have a bucket of crap and a hit 'n fixed (or as WE say... touched & puffed) car, and when they have a stand-up car.

If you love it...don't lose it. Like a woman, they can slip away....

Not to go off on much of a tangent here, but concerning "The Leasers" you brought up Sandy, I had to include a story on this. One of my college buddies who has been referred to as "The WEasel" for his car negotiation skills, he spends months on end, hour after hour, 20 dealerships, goiing after the lowest price on earth. Anyway, he has become a Leaser. He is METICULOUS about things he owns, but concerning leasing cars forget it. A few years back he had a two year lease on a '01 or '02 Dodge Ram 3500 Laramie Dually 4x4 with a V10 loaded with every option. This was a $40K truck. Want the punch line? He never changed the oil one time in the two years he had the truck. I couldn't believe it when he told me. He's on his 4th Dodge Ram lease now.

Yep, so beware of leased vehicles.

Leased vehicles are indeed, your worst investment. People (Okay, 85%) do not take care of that which they do not own.

Regarding the Weasel....

Don't be inpressed. He has not a clue what he is/was doing. A truly informed, educated, person with .75 cents worth of common sence, (an item 90% of ALL buyers check at the door, with their coat) - would only have to visit 1 or 2 dealers (of the same make).

and, as I tell people,
USE the waiting room in the service dept, BEFORE you buy!!
