The 1986 Canadian Capri brochure lists what major difference from the US brochure?

The Capri GS (true GS) could come with a 5 speed with 5.0L engine.

Here is such a car. I will see if I can get a picture of the door tag.

Oh. and the 1985 Canadian Brochure says what we all know...only automatics are available with the (true) GS and a 5.0.

He said the car was in rough shape,
it looked ok to me or maybe its the
color hiding the condition of the car.
Anyway you can appreciate his honesty.

I can't open the pics, but that IS amazing. Think of how very rare that car must be. GS with 5.0 & 5-speed in 1985 was not available. As we all know production of Capri(s) dropped measurably for 1986, yet in 1986 and ONLY for Canadian market, the GS 5.0 V8 WITH a 5-Speed was okay !
MIKE: Do you have a Canadian-issue 1986 Capri brochure?? If so, could you scan it here ? I's love to see it.
Does anybody know WHY it was not available in the USA? For sure it has to do with polution, in some way, (I would think...)
This cost ascMcLaren much $$$$ as you know that each coupe had to begin as an RS, and all cars to be made as a 'Vert - but with a 5-Speed had to begin as a RS. Only the 'Verts that were ordered as a V8 with Auto could begin as a GS. This cost them. Had the 5-Speed been okay with the V8, all Coupes so ordered (5-Speed) could have begun as GS cars. Any & all 6-Cyl McLaren 'Verts (Automatic ONLY) also were GS cars.

So, basically, ALL V8 Auto cars then could have begun as GS, instead of RS.

Yes, I have all 79-86 Canadian brochures now. I plan on scanning them all here eventually.

On the "Options" page they show an option for the "5.0L engine with 5 speed manual". It is marked standard with the RS but optional with the GS. On another column they show the "5.0L engine with Automatic" and it is optional on both the GS and RS.

And the ascMcLaren mention is absent from the Canadian brochure.

There are some interesting differences besides what I have discovered for 1986.

The turbo cars were dropped in the US in 1982 but still were available to Canadian buyers (according to the brochure).

Yes, I got "in" & got to see the pics. Had to "Sign In" I am registered, but seldom go there. 'Ya know how it is...I just have waaay too many places to go ! "So many places, & such little time" Laughing

Mike, I am sure that "Optional at extra cost refering to the GS would be pertaining to the V-8, not the tranny. They could not charge extra for both the Auto AND the 5-Speed.
I did know that the ascMcLaren was not sold in Canada, as I've had Canadians e-mail (one even telephoned) asking "What is/was a ASC MAC - CALERON" ?
What is *IN* that space on the Canadian brochure, where in the domestic one is that pic & description?? Blank ? No?? What's there?

Not really. The way the brochure is setup, you choose an engine/tranny as a SINGLE option.

You don't choose the engine and then choose the tranny.

I'll see if I can get it scanned this evening.

Sandy,
the correct placement for hatch emblems on a 85/6 capri should be the capri on the drivers side & mercury on the passenger side. if it is the other way around, then it was a re-paint & someone put them on backwards.

Mike,
the turbo was available in 86 on the RS in canada?

No I meant the 82 Canadian brochure differs from the 82 USA one in that the turbo was dropped in the USA.

BTW, don't look on my site for stuff as half of my brochures I scanned are the Canadian ones....but I put them up as if they were the US ones (cause I didn't know). I need to deconfuse things.

Yes, now trhat you mention it, I do recall what I called the backwards nameplates. I always wondered about

>>>>> CAPRI * MERCURY <<<<< on the hatch. It always seemed so backwards. They displayed no GS if they were a GS ? They sure got their nomenclature all fouled up.

sandy, the gs emblem would be next to the capri emblem(to the right of it) on the drivers side.
i know that 79 & maybe a couple of years after had the emblems the other way from the factory. not sure what year they switched them.

So, talking of the car in question, the V8 5-Speed in Canada, are you saying that on the left side of the hatch, where the "capri" is that it should be followed by a "GS" ? I dunno - I am asking .... Question

85 was like that. not sure about the GS emblem in 86, but the capri emblem was on the drivers side in 86.
