Yesterday, I had surgery. It was a big deal, only because I have never been inside a hospital (for myself) before.
I am home now and in mutted (soft-core) discomfort. I have not eaten since Wednesday eve, the 24th. I only drink. Mostly Sierra Mist & 7-UP.
I sleep alot. That is why I have been "quiet" ~ Also pretty weak, but getting better. Tomorrow I will try to drive our Jeep. It's dark & rainy here in NJ, so it's good sleeping weather, which is what I have been doing.
Just wanted to let you know why I've been missing .....
I was "in" from 10:30 Friday AM until 6PM Friday eve.
I had a colonoscopy, and stomach-related unpleasant testing, and
some tissue removal. Sucks turning 60. From 1-59 I was never sick with more than the flu or a cold. Sixty comes along...and POW
Everything begins to go, human warrantee is over.

Glad to here you're home and doing better. Colonoscopy is the only way to go. The best way to check your colon. Iv'e had 7 of them after I turned 50. 65 now. Going to have another one in 2008.

This was my 1st - at 60. I know I shoulda had one at 55, but I was scared to death of it. People all say how horrible the prep is the night prior. Geeezz, it was nothing ! Only bad part for me was AFTER awaking from the procedure, I had monester gas build up, will monester stomach ache and could not pass gas in the hospital, for love or money. I walked to the car doubled over in pain.

When I got home - I relaxed, andhad a drink of 7-UP and relaxed some more, and then became the fartKING of New Jersey, it was like letting the air out of a balloon - which is kinda what I looked like.

I will have another in 2 years.

Sandy

Glad to have you back "on board". I have the same medical history as you, I'm just a few years younger. Doc said this week its time for my first colonoscopy. We're going to talk about it in two weeks.

Welcome to the world of roto-rooter... Embarassed

The preparation for this little proceedure is the worst part IMO. Hopefully all your tests go well and you begin to feel better soon.

See, they all say that, regarding the prep.
The prep is not so bad, really. You are at home,
and it's only like you have the "shets", many times
over & over ~ but, it's not painfull.
At the hospital, per usual, they work at a snail's pace,
so, you build up a huge amount of fear of the
unknown, (assuming it's your 1st time). But,
they put you "out" and trust me....you know & feel
NOTHING.
The worst part for me was upon awaking, you are
all plumped up and chocked full of gas. IF you can
expell it - you are okay. But, if you are as I was,
and you cannot "blow it out" Oy Vey..the pain is
really baaad. Your worst tummy ache !
It's very funny - well sorta - you're in a big room, on your
hospital bed on wheels, sides pulled up, and a curtain all
around you. you see nothing. But, all ya hear are people
all around you, in there own little closed in space,
and it sounds lie the world's biggest fart contest.
Everybody that was, but me. Crying or Very sad
Nurse is telling me, "Sandy, you have to pass gas, try"
(If she would left me alone, maybe I would have,
but.....hard to do with her there.
The guy next to me was making me laugh - because
he was softly counting his farts, aloud. He was up to 81
when they let him prepare to leave.
They finally discharged me after I did 5 ! Laughing
When I got home, I am sure I passed that guy with the 81. Shocked
My wife said that I looked like the Michelin Man.....

I had one done at the age of 33. Did not like the drink before hand. Could not stomach the second round. I had more come out of the mouth than I did out of the rear. Horrible tasting stuff.

Next time ask for Citrate of Magneuism Lime Flavor.
It tastes like 7-UP/Sierra Mist/Sprite that's gone flat, but
thick, like it's got honey in it.
Chill it real cold, and pour into a glass, not from the bottle
and drink it down fast - True, it wasn't something I'd ever
buy to "drink" - but cold and whooped down fast, it was not all
that bad. I was able to deal with that phase of it all.

33 is pretty young! The Drs. here start verbally "selling it" when you are like 50 to 52. I waited an extra 8 years. I hope I didn't error. Fear, ya know is one of the strongest forces in the universe. I will do it again in October of 2009.

Sandy,
All the times that I have it done I only had gas one time. Never went back to that doctor again. The doctors can let the air out while they are removing the instrument. The worse part was the night before trying to drink that gallon of that stuff. Sad

Ouch! If they did not let the gas out, I can almost feel your pain. Gut cramps like that are miserable. I have only had to deal with the gas once in 4 different procedures. That is why the prep is bad for me. I can not stand the taste of the crap they force down you. Then try and have to deal with a severe case of hemrroids while chitten acid out the back door for a couple of days... Crying or Very sad

Take care!

"" The doctors can let the air out while they are removing the instrument. ""

Zeke & Scott, how do they do this ?? Do you know HOW they let the gas out using the instrument ? Interesting.

I got my Silver Anniversary '90 put into it's new rental garage. Okay $100 more a month ($225) than the old place that the owners sold ($125) but it's much nicer & safer! Went to visit her & drive wife's Jeep today. Very nice garage, all brick, new roof, locking door. Concrete interior, sorta kinda hidden frome street view.
Thinking about selling her come early Summer of 2008.
Getting older and taking care of 6 "children" is not like when I was 50.
