Those mysterious 1984s......
I try hard to stay away, as I cannot produce paperwork to document
anything. The 25 1984s were NOT consistant. Features on one, were
lacking on another, and visa versa. To say they all had red widgets
is opening oneself up for trouble, as soon as one shows up, 100%
original, with 20,000 miles in the hand of the original owner, with
BLUE widgets on it! Now....I'm a liar! See? Yet, I saw 9 with red
widgets on them! So, am I a liar? Nothing is documented, or at
least nothing that I have.
The valve covers were black crinkle and ribbed with ascMcLaren
lettering the appeared attached afterward. The Valve chambers were
enlarged, and housed larger valves, with prototype springs. The
breathing was opened up by means unknown. The 302 was massaged by
FORD at Dearborn, and had a B-303 Cam (with VERY Special Lifters in
the '84 block) and some cars had ported heads.
The exhaust was different. 3" tailpipe width and different headers.
The car's hood lacked the "vents" and instead had scoops that were
cut into the hood, NASA-style. There was the radar detector we have,
but it was built INTO the glove box door. Actually, the unit sat
inside the glove box, and the door had a cutout with the faceplate
appearing thru the closed door, flush with the closed door. The
tranny had Hurst linkage and shifter. The axle ratio was upped to
3.08.:1 from 2.73:1. The shift points were sharper and more
pronounced. They were all Ford's Deep Cadet Blue Metallic, with the
Popsicle Orange striping/Decals/Logos & rims.
All 25 were campaigned in & around Detroit Michigan and ultimaltly
sold in Michigan area, as USED cars.
I have been privedged to see 1 in person. They were //~HOT~\\ !!
Again, NOT all had ALL of the above....most did.
Then the bean counters arrived at the party.....and never brought the
