It's a special interest class and these are the cars...

-Brand new Dodge Charger - Dodge green but not an SRT8 just a reg Hemi
-a late model burgundy extended cab Dodge truck - nothing special
-The Camry version Lexus - black
-a smart car - black
-a 90's cougar, black with flames and fleckstone painted interior - 6 cyl Not an XR7
-a pinto kit car
-a 95 Vette - nothing special just a yellow 95 Vette
-a red Ram Air TA with aftermarket chrome wheels...
-an 86 ascMcLaren Capri - (Yes My car)

Now when I looked at these cars the first thought was they weren't even really special interest cars...but anyway 1st 2nd and 3rd...you decide.

This show was judged by all the participants. You voted for cars in opposite classes...for example I was in class 15 so I voted for the even # classes and vise versa...

oh Mike, I feel your pain brotha.............lol. Been there....... I don't know where to start on this.

Not seeing pictures of the other cars, makes it a little tougher, but off the cuff quickly I'd say: 1- ASC Capri 2-vette 3-TA.......... Was this a little "townie - wednesday night wendy's" car show? or a full blown big deal car show? Know this. Some people are capable of objectivity and some aren't. For example. The guy who had the pinto kit car in your class, he probably thinks he has the best car there, even if a Mclaren F1 Supercar pulled up next to him. Its true, there are people like that. I'm not really sure I understand seeing a smart car or the camry there.

It depends on each car show and what they plan on judging on. I've thought about this numerous times. In addition to "paint, interior, engine....." I BELIEVE that rarity should be a factor. I think that is a legitamate factor. I was at a car show once and was beaten by a '87-'88 Mustang GT convertible. yes, it was clean, well-kept, and nice - but no moreso than mine. So what should it come down to??? A car they made 50,000 of or one that is 1 of 50.

One more thing I've heard people mention about going to "new" car shows for the first time where there is a "local car club" involved, don't expect to win, I've heard they all vote for each other. Sad, but true. Mad

Anyway, I've said my peace, keep your head up, you've got one hell of a nice car! Smile

EDIT - it was a car show at a church that they advertised for months. Not a weekly "cruise" show. Like I said judging was by the participants...which I thought was a good idea. 2 of 3 for every class I picked except my class...which I thought was weird...I figured other "car people" would know better. Perhaps next time I'll have to do up one of those plaques so that everyone knows exactly what the car is...

If I were in just a regular class - 1980-up modified or something like that it might have been a different story...but it was a "Special Interest" class. I would have expected Saleens, Cobras, Lingenfelter Vettes, SRT Dodge varients etc etc...Not run-of-the mill Vettes or Ghetto'd Cougars and Lexus sedans...lol

And my car - all detailed and looking good...

All of the pics...There were a lot of nice cars there though...

Perhaps I didn't have the car # and class # plaque in visible enough view and people didn't know what # my car was??? I just noticed most people had theirs on the outside while I had mine inside on the dash...
Shrug

Waiting for more replies to post the actual results! Smile

I have found out that participant judged shows are a farce. The guy who has the most pals there....WINS!

The ONLY shows where I allow my cars to be judged is where there are pro or semi professionals doing the judging. Otherwise, I put a small sign in the window that says... "Not To Be judged - I've won enough" Very Happy

Stuck Up...Maybe..... but it avoids disappointment on my part and destain towards me (should I win) from fellow car friends.

I have 3 trophies from days long long gone by, and they are dust collectors.

I found it more enjoyable to go... to show .... to meet & greet and have a nice time. If someone doesn't like or thinks my car is dumb or ugly or stupid.... that's fine! To each his own, and I am never gonna turn the "lights" on for him, only he can do that.

I like my cars, and that is all that matters.

If a person doesn't like rude comments...go to a car show that attracts an older crowd. (or at least the over 30 set)

Your car's a winner, Mike, and everyone on here knows that, as do I.
It's those that didn't vote for your car, that lost out, because they do not know beans about it and YES, it was the only one of the cars you mentioned that was truly SPECIAL INTEREST material !!!!!!
It could probably blow the doors of that yellow 'Vette, too!

PS / I wish you had taken a shot of the AMC Matador 2-Door in back & to the left of the Charger Daytona R/T. I have a think for those ! Their very active club is located here in NJ and they have some scortchin' hot cars !

There were 3 AMC cars there that were all, in my opinion, junk! Rare, collectible whatever you want to call it they didn't deserve to be at a car show. To me, a car show if for nice cars that are clean. It always amazes me the cars people enter into a car show...to each his own I guess...

Anyway I wish the results would have ended as you all have guessed - However, it actually ended like this:

1 - 95 Vette
2 - Pinto Kit Car
3 - 90's Cougar

Furious

Protest

Screwy

Shrug

I definitely would disagree with this. Some of the best car shows are where people pull in the most oddball cars no matter if they are unrestored, beaters, etc. If all you have are showroom perfect cars, you only get stuckup shows where there are Trailer Queens and new cars purchased by lazy rich people who want to buy their trophy.

Of course you don't want some ratty old Escorts or Civics showing up from the 90's but that rarely happens.

I drove my dad's unrestored '65 Ranchero into a few show. That thing had a crappy paintjob and was totally unrestored. I got MORE complements and people reminiscing about the old Ranchero they had than the fully restored 66 Mustang next to it.

I've seen an unrestored Whippet, a 1930 Dodge, my ascMcLaren (by the previous owner), etc etc. You're really missing out if you ignore those old "clunkers".

I totally agree. I found it way more fun to just walk around and talk with everyone than to fuss over your car for a whole day trying for a shot at a trophy. After about the 3rd show. We just went for the dash plaques. Those were better than any trophy IMHO.

I love the way your side skirts are trying to bow in the middle. I always thought that that was a design feature and love the look that most originals ended up having. This site explained it ain't so and they were meant to be straight. I still like the curved look better, the straight rocker shouts Mustang at me. You have a beauty and should of won due to the rarity factor compared to an equally nice car.

"" Trailer Queens and new cars purchased by lazy rich people who want to buy their trophy. ""

If you had me in mind.... I do not own a trailer, as I drive to all shows & home again, I am somwhat, at times, a bit lazy, I am NOT rich, wealthy or heir to some throne, and I don't care about winning another dust collector. I have 3 trophys, a 1st a 2nd & a 3rd and 1 people's choice award plaque. That's waaay more than enough for me. As said, I often put a little sign on my windshield: "Not to be judged" I do it to educate the masses as to our cars, met new & interesting people who are of like "car-mind" and have some fun and look at other neat cars.
I view the cars are mobile art, like an art show.

AMC

Do you recall the 1970 REBEL model called "THE MACHINE" ?
The Nat'l. club Pres is located like 8 miles from me. In 1971 the did another literally unknown "THE MACHINE" Ultra RARE car, and again in 1972 Rebel Coupe. He is Pres of the MACHINE club and has a load of other really rare AMCs. I've seen a sampling of them. Awesome stuff.
Mark Donohue Javelins, Pace Cars, Many MACHINES, Matador Barcelonas with 401 4-Bbls. and 4-Speeds with factory Traction bars....
AMXs, and The AMX Hornets. It's a treat to see what the little company offered, that few bought.
When new....nobody looked at them. Now at shows, you can hardly get near to them, folks are 2 & 3 deep around them, and seemingly awe struck!! People all think they are aftermarket...'til they read the original AMC window sticker. Way cool cars.

I'm not sweating it and it's only my 2nd real show. The other was NMRA at Atco and it was professionally judged and I got 3rd for best interior...losing to a new Mustang GT and a new Harley F150 both with custom interiors...which is fine with me. I definitely had a blast but what annoyed me about this one was that I was spot on on all the other class winners but mine...Oh well...

About the AMC's - I guess what I meant to say was along with their bad paint and ratty interiors, they were just dirty and un-kept. They should have at least cleaned and vacuumed them...I say the same thing about that 09 Shelby...the car was dirty and that annoys me. At least clean the car if your going to enter it into a car show.

Also regarding the ratty AMC's, I can appreciate a rare car...obviously I have one, but just because it's rare doesn't mean it should win over a car in the same class that's nicer.

I'm alittle late But I was Guessing the Vett It's YELLOW with a stuffed BIG BIRD on the engine. It seems that anywhere you go everybody LOVES a Vette and body style doesnt matter.

As for clunkers at shows I take My GP which the paint has NO shine so im told By a unnamed Mustang photography that was at Milan MI and has a article this month about the show. He suggusted that I spray Clear over the whole car and it would do it a world of good I just LOL. I enjoyed the talk with people for What my car is a CAPRI!!!
