I posted this over at foureyedpride, but knowing that not everyone here visits that site with frequency, I cannot resist posting it here as well.
I am proud to announce a new acquisition that will probably be met with inquisitive looks at best and outright mocking at worst: a 1974 Cougar. This is one of the few cars that is in better condition in person than in photos.
After years of telling myself that I would get my '75 Cougar (my first car, purchased at age 15) fixed up, I finally had to come to grips with the fact that its Midwestern salt-induced rust was for too expansive to permit restoration. While I will keep the '75 forever (it is my hope to be buried in it), I have picked up a 25,000 original mile '74 that is a near-twin.
Is it big? Yes.
Is it heavy? Yes.
Is it slow? Yes.
And I love it.

Actually I like it. It's different, and I completely understand the love for vehicles of one's past. I am a Scoutaholic and literally begged a gentlemen here in Plano, TX to sell me his 1980 all original Scout to me since 1988. He was the original owner and a retired executive of IH. He finally sold it to me in January of this year. He's 81 now and was finally ready to let it go. His wife teared up as I started it to leave. It was and is a dream car of mine. Most don't appreciate it or even know what it is, but I grew up riding in my Grandfather's and father's Scouts, so theyre in my blood.
Congrats on the purchase. Enjoy the Cougar.
I had a buddy in High School who inherited his Grandfathers 1977 Cougar. It was in perfect original condition, Green inside and out with an anemic 2 barrel 302 and column shift Auto. It was slower than hell, but it was very cool in it's 1970's hugeness.

The Scout looks great, particularly in that color. It tears at the heart to see longtime owners get sad when they finally sell a car, but they have to appreciate knowing that it is going into the hands of a good owner.
I love the GP. It is as clean as you can get. When I was in high school, few of the kids had Mustangs, Camaros and such (probably due to insurance costs). Instead, it seemed like everyone either owned or wanted a Cougar, Grand Prix, Cutlass, Regal or Monte Carlo. It still amazes me how the market for those cars disintegrated over the years. _________________ Robert

David, I am glad business is going good for you! CHEERS!
From the little that I can see, the place looks 110% better than the pics when you bought it.

Ya, granted, but I could never ever do that. With personal cars, I am like the stereotype female...it's gotta be THE color I want AND THE interior I want.and have the options that I WANT and NOT have the option or options that I DO NOT want. Fussy fussy fussy. Other than FOOD, it's really THE only thing I am fussy about. So, for my personal car....like the old song......It's gotta be me !"
Son is growing up ! .... and we? We are growing old.... _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.
