I tore a few ligaments in my pinkie finger over a year ago, and it's still a little sore. I went to the doctor a few months ago, and he said it is quite normal for a finger to take a very long time to heal.

Shiny Side Up!

Jammed my toe. Took weeks to heal.

FWIW, best thing is to look on some of the self help medical sites and post your info.

BTW, you should explain how it started hurting....do you have swelling? Does it hurt all the time or just when you move it or move it to a certain spot? Does it make noise? etc etc.

You need to see a dr. You can't afford not to. Would you like to lose your whole hand?

Swelling like that for that length of time is just going to destroy your hand. You may even have a blood clot which if it loosens, will easily kill you.

You need to get it looked at.

none of it was as bad as the affects of the cancer !! The cure is always

easier than the suffering. ! DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you say "nerve damage"?

You're quite possibly destroying your hand.

Peter, why do you not have health insurance?

Since you are working in a hazardous environment (aka not a desk job), you should try to have the bare minimum. I don't know what the rates up there are, I know it's not fun paying it but you need at least some coverage.

I just checked Blue Cross and its about $80 a month for the cheapest plan. This has a very high deductable ($5k) but this is exactly what can save your ass when things go really bad...as in major surgery. A lot of people can deal with a $5k bill even if it seems like a lot. Go to $110/month and it's a $3500 deductable and $124/month its $2700 deductable.

If you are working you need to get some kind of plan. That money should also be tax deductable at the end of the year. In effect it should drop the rate by whatever tax bracket you are in.

it might sound dumb but at this point in my life i have very few bills. so i try to save and save and save. but because of my job i also buy tools and more tools and more tools. so if i dont have to pay for insurance (my boss sould be but he dosent offer it) then i can save more. i dont have cable tv. some people think im nuts. the people that work with my girlfriend make fun of her! but why pay for it. here in detroit i get FOX NBC ABC CBS CW WB PBS and some others all for free. i only watch tv after 8pm anyway.

i do need to bite the bullet and get me some insurance. i need dental too.

about the tax deductable stuff. would my dental bills from 2008 have some type of deduction?

thanks guys.

i got a reply from one of the doctors on the medical board.

Quote:
Hello,
I am sorry to hear about your thumb.

Is there any pain or difficulty holding, grasping, or pinching objects using the thumb. Sometimes the ligament on the inside of the thumb gets sprained (gamekeepers thumb). Treatment involves avoiding painful movements, ice or heat packs, NSAIDS, and time for healing.

The joint at the base of the thumb is also prone to osteoarthitis (OA). Treatment includes acetaminophen, hot packs, and gentle range of motion. You may find wrapping the thumb with self adhesive wrap (looks like a small ACE wrap but adheres to itself - stretchy too) helpful.

Let us know if you have any more questions and if in doubt about the diagnosis, see your family physician.

Take care.

Peter, here is a good idea.
1) Price out the insurance you'd feel comfortable buying.
2) Figure out how much quarterly you'd be paying for it.
3) Your Boss. I am sure he has insurance. Usually Corporate ins offers more than personal. He HAS to have ins. in case someone gets hurt there, especially if it's HIS negligence ! Tell him that you'd be willing to take a pay cut of(the amount it is gonna cost you, as an individual) .....
IF IF IF IF he will add YOU to his policy! the dangling carrot for him is the "pay cut" ~ but the benefit to YOU is that his insurance, covering YOU is gonna be better coverage for LESS $$$ than YOU can obtain!
You both win. Run it by him. What have ya got to lose?

None is gonna cover Mr. Thumb, because it's too late, but the next problem will be covered.
Good Luck !
