The onion head strut tops were used on the 84-86 SVO too. I think the car is a mix-match of parts. The air cleaners doesn't look right. What about the missing ash tray? The console was optional 79-85.

If Ford gave them a car, who's to say it was a V8. Hell, it could have been just a rolling chassis or a body in white. That could explain why it doesn't have a Ford VIN and an older V8.

The air cleaner looks similar to the one used on the 3.8 liter V6. As for the valve covers, my 85 Mc has the stamped steel ones as did my 84 Mustang SSP.

Possibly...but why toss in a 3 year old V8 in a $45k car? My gut says it is the original engine for the chassis since too many "original" parts like clamps, hoses, etc that would have been tossed to make the swap easier are still present....but there are some things that aren't quite right either....hey anything is possible!

Too bad nobody is close by and could go and check it out. Pull some date stamps off the sheet metal, etc.

Guys -

The car in the auction is an "AKA 1000", based off an early (probably a 1981 or 1982) Mustang. I have an old "High Performance Kit Cars" magazine with a complete story on the car.

It was styled after a one-off Ford Styling prototype known as the "Bordinat Cobra" (I arranged to display the Bordinat Cobra at last year's SAAC Convention in Detroit - I finally found the car after searching for 5 years!). A gentleman by the name of Al Kelly wanted to make a Mustang convertible styled after the Bordinat Cobra. He bought a body from US Royal (there may have been three Bordinat Cobra bodies, only one car was built), and modified it to fit a Mustang chassis. He started this in 1981, and in 1985, Kit Car magazine had the article, saying he was going to begin producing cars using Pacific Coast Cobra (in California) to make bodies for him out of fiberglass. PCC went belly-up in May, 1986 - I doubt they made very many of these (the guy claims they made 17 of them). This looks to me to be the very same car that was featured in the magazine (which had several good color shots).

Here's a look at the cover of the magazine:

Here's what the original Ford Styling car looks like:

The Bordinat Cobra is actually the very first "427" Shelby Cobra with a plastic body on it. There was a sister car that preceded it, called the "Cougar II", built from one of the first 260 Shelby Cobras.

regards,

cobrajeff

Heheh.

Cobrajeff, I forwarded your info to the guy and he was impressed....

I asked if I could post his response here and I will see what he says.

BTW, he help build the cars....and was "playing dumb" so he wouldn't have to answer a bunch of moronic questions like I was asking. Very Happy

Sometimes persistance pays off, eh?

Its all fun fun.
