A person has a nice looking 85 convt on ebaywith modified engine with carb. Is this car impossible to get licensed in an emission test state? Is it good just as a SCCA racer? And yes Sandy I still own my black 86 convt with all options except reccaro's . It has 16 000 miles on it and is getting restored to perfect. It has been garaged and driven down private road for 8 years. Mike Jacobi Milwaukee wi |

Since manual tranny '85 5.0 HO's came equipped with carbs I don't see what the problem would be provided it passes the sniff test. _________________ Tom S.

Depends on your state.
CA is the worst but others don't look for anything other than the inclusion of the smog equipment (whether its hooked up or not) and still others only do testing on cars 20 years and newer.
If you live in CA, they supposedly look at everything, intake, headers, etc and check the computer to see if its smog legal.
Here in NC, they just check to make sure your charcoal cannisters are there along with PCV valve, CAT, and EGR....as long as you pass the sniffer, those things don't need to be hooked up.
Next year, they won't even do the sniff test for 85s.
