Hello all...I have a few questions, Is there a way to keep my car this low while improving the ride? I currently have Koni adjustable shock but they have to be set on firm or the car will bottom out. Will coil overs help? will they improve the ride? what about airbags or air shocks? any help will be appreciated.

It looks to me like your car has been lowered, so replacing the springs with the correct height springs will enable you to set your shocks on a lighter setting without bottoming.

What Springs are you using?. If they where the factory springs cut or heated up a Quality set of lowering spring should ride nicer but may set a tad higher

The car was lowered when i purchased it. The owner the owner told me his son had the car in california. It had the original rims and tires so i had more coushin. when i went to the 18'x 10 i kept the same aspect ratio but the rims are wider. i have about 1inch or less of clearence between the finder well and the tire. It looks like it rubs but it does'nt. I love the way the car looks, but the ride is starting to get to me. so i am really tring to keep the look. If there is no solution then i will continue with the rough ride.

Not sure if there is anything more you could do to damage your kidneys on these roads!

Lowering hurts ride and those wheels/tires seal the deal!

Both of my 1990s are 100% stock. Both ride like they have tires made of concrete!! I have not had either outdoors yet this year. Very very soon they will be coming out & I shutter to think about the 20 million pot-holes here in New Jersey! I have seen MANY pot=holes in which one could totally hide a basketball !! The roads that used to be smooth and free of bumps. aren't any longer. In any McLaren you feel everything.
When I bought my daily driver I went for comfort and smooth and numb feel. Bought a Town Car, and would do it again without a 2nd thought.
Royal Gold, flip her back to OEM wheels/tires & shocks, and she'll be better - not great, but better. Trust me, at 100% stock, mine are stil a PITA on anything short of a road totally REpaved, last week. Just the nature of the beast. She still looks like a million bucks! Love the color. Good Job

i have dicided that i am going to raise the car. now i need to know how low should i go and will i get a good ride. assuming that i am starting from stock, how low should i go down. or what is the average drop for a mustang.

I have a set of Eibach Pro-Kit springs in mine and don't have any issues bottoming out. I live in a urban/suburban area with lousy roads.
You may have a very aggressive drop, the pro-kit springs only drop the car about 1"-1.5"

Air lift makes air bag that mount inside your springs that may give you the additional lift you need while driving and air down while parked or on a smooth highway.

This is true, BUT years & years & years ago I had GTO Tri-Power with the optional H.D. Suspension Pkg and it was more complacent and less fuss over road imperfections, than the McLarens (100% STOCK) are !!

I'd like softer springs with a panhard rod in the rear.

But none of them are D.D.s (daily drivers) so I can deal with it.
The current DD is the Town Car. My last Imperial was a 1982 and the only one tha I didn't like. I had 1968, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1982. then switched to T.C. s. The McLarens are a nice place to visit, if ya don;'t stay too long. Wink

or drive only on newly paved roads.

I'm used to a 1980 Corvette and I think my McLaren rides harsh! Especially the back axle.

I also have a 1980 vette and please don't tell me they ride nice. In my sports car the best to date is my Ferrari for comfort. I have to admit that the ASC is on the hard side. Sandy, I'm also a Lincoln guy. I've owned a couple TC and also a Mark VII LSC and 2 Grand Marquis. These are like riding on air compare to our little sport cars. My 78 T-Bird compare a lot with those. Each car has his own vocation.
