How much do the advertisers know about the consumer, and how do they know it.

I frequently search for stuff on Yahoo! and they try to tailor ads on their search pages to the individual.

SO......ads start appearing for "American Muscle, your aftermarket mustang authority." Included in the ad is a picture of a mustang hardtop.

Now, just today, the picture has been changed to show an ascMcLaren convertible. Same car when I go to their page.

How is it that they know to appeal to me this way? Damn internet snoops.

I noticed that a while back. I think there was a report on the news last night about that - however I didn't watch it. lol.

Crazy stuff.

I'd bet if you cleared all your cache and history and stuff after each page you'd be ok. Try private browsing using Firefox that will probably help...

EVERY search you make on an internet search site goes STRAIGHT to the marketers, with your IP address (probably whatever else they can see).

Then subsequent sites you visit that tie into this marketing system can match your IP and then know what to put in front of you.

Taken a step farther, visits to the large internet stores will be shared with the marketers. So as you go from store to store, they can figure out your buying habits and target ads. They see what you searched for at each store and maybe what you put in your shopping cart.
