Funky little car.

http://www.online-racer.com/Online_retro.htm

n the late 90's GB Motorsports built the first retro-Mustang on a Fox Mustang platform. Although the enthusiasts were very excited about the car, there was speculation that Ford would bring one out soon and thus made it a tough sale. There was even a trade magazine that published on the front page that the GB Mustang (latter re-named to Boss 5.0)was the car that Ford should have built for 2000.

Marketing a car is not cheep and GB Motorsports had its share of financial issues in order to market and produce the GB Mustang properly. Several cars were built and are still on the road including two fully prepared race cars (GB400R) one which is was campaigned by Online-Racer.com and won the 2001 SCCA Super Production championship.

Not being able to go out an purchase an original roadster, we found some old parts left over form the car builder and decided to make them work on our 89 convertible and make it our daily roadster.

Our 89 Mustang has gone thru an extensive set of face lifts thru ought its life. Starting as a stock 89 GT this car became our R&D vehicle and still is.

The first step was to figure out how to blend the fiberglass parts into the convertible's sheetmetal. The original roadster was built on the Fox platform which's entire body was cut-off and the 3 piece fiberglass body then re-installed on a custom built frame. On this project we had to cut smaller pices of the 3 part body and make it work.

Not really sure if I love it, or hate it. It is different, looks just like a body kit though. I wonder if they lowered the ride height or enhanced the handling at all. I see it is converted to 5 lug, would like more technical details.

Well, as it sits...YUCK. The proportions are all wrong. There is no "flow" to the car's styling. The front is all rounded and then flat lines in the middle and the back looks weird.

*BUT!* I see the potential and what they were shooting for. If Ford had picked up the project and had reworked the body, eased out the lines, I bet it would have looked pretty darn cool.

A+ for effort.
