Any of you have photos of a certifiably original cloth top on an 84-86 ASC?
Thx

I have 3 pics in my album but only 1 is a fairly close shot. Why do you need them? |

Thanks Ken,
In talking with one of the members here I was told that a rumor has floated around here & there that one of the black convertibles in 85 came with a black top.
Sandy's lists, show that all blacks came with tan tops in 85 & not until 86 was a black top an option on the black convertibles.
When I bought my car I asked the seller who seemed to think that the top on this one had always been black. He had even ordered a new black top (never installed) so as not to change the car's originality.
I have searched, but can't find photos of #67 prior to 2005 when it did indeed sport a black top.
If memory serves me correctly I read somewhere on this site that the replacement tops that Hank sells are not exactly like the originals.
That is why I wanted to see a photo of an original top to see if it seemed to match the top on mine.
Ron
PS yours looks like mine as far as I can see other than the color (oh yeah mine sags while yours appears to be tight.) _________________ Favorite rides past & present:

Ron,
Take a look at the back window of your top. See if there's some code numbers/letters embossed on it. Mine has. A replacement top may not have any.
I forgot about that but just remembered that someone asked me for the numbers some time back.
I'd tell you what mine are but the car is in my garage and the top is down. It's been 80 and sunny for a week+ now. had it out for a top down run Sunday.

And for Hank's top, yes they are different. Mine came from him and is different from my original. My car is a 86 Capri. I don't know about the mustangs. _________________ 87 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 cabriolet(sold)

IF that is your car, the roof is NOT original, as your "small plastic windows are TOO large. Correct Shpe and all, but too large. Should be like 15 percent smaller in all dimentions |
Sandy, I don't see a difference in these two tops, other than the color...

You are correct, because they are BOTH aftermarket. The small end windows are too wide and the lower curve is way off. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

But the red one is Ken Tennis' car. Maybe I misunderstood, I thought his was all original?? _________________ 1986 ASC vert - #86-0001

Neither is OEM. They are too tall and too wide. IF I could only find one with thre original top - maybe you could see the it. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

The blue one looks aftermarket I think. Your black car is very nice. Looks identical to mine except for antenna. _________________ 87 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 cabriolet(sold)

Ken,
Do you remember more or less where on the window they are located? _________________ Favorite rides past & present:
