Hello, can anyone tell me if the 85 on ebay that's in Pa. is correct? I see no badges at all anywhere? How can one tell other than the door sticker and vin whether this is done properly, as it's been repainted? Thanks for any info on this.

Yes, that's the one im considering. I received a message from the seller this am. He's a dealer and sad that this car never had a badge on the dash and the emblem was lost by the paint shop. Says he has some docs and may be able to find out the number, etc. I don't know, now it sounds like a 5K car? Any thoughts.

Ask about the wood grain.

It looks to have been replaced along with adding those nasty white faced gauges.

The woodgrain was replaced he says,but the guages supposedly come with this from mclaren-special 140 speedo,etc.

Oh well,there goes that idea,still looks like a sweet ride. But i guess i should get something unmolsted to keep its value. What would you say a fair price for one like this would be?

These cars are struggling with their values right now. Well maybe all along. Good cars will be in the $3K to $6K range or more. There are very few perfect cars out there for sale. They all seem to have 1 or 2 questionable things like the speedo on this one. Did you notice the dash pad was pretty much hidden? Check the reflection! The White faced speedo was not invented back then.

From what I have seen, they are barely getting $2500 but these need some work and most fit into this catagory. Once the price gets over $3500, they are a hard sell. They also need to be in near excellent condition by that price.

3 price killers are:
Top replacement $1800.
Recaro seat recovering $1100.
Body and paint $$$$

84 #1 blue (white) still no sale at $2500
84 #? white no sale at $1800
85 #215 white dented sold for $2500
85 #148 red sold for $2575
86 #8 white no sale at $5500

For $10K the car had better be perfect and low mileage. Not many with cash these days.

For $6K- $9K a few more miles and cash needed. Again not many with cash.

For $3500 to $5500, hard to say since not many fit this price range. I see some people flipping them in this price range.

For $500 to $2500, all need something that will cost $1000 or more.

So Price depends on what you can live with and/or fix later. If it doesn't need seats, top or paint, I say it's worth $3500 and up.

Thanks for that info! This 85 on ebay is already at 4800 i think,he has a buy it now of 6K,sounded good till just a few moments ago-LOL,Oh well,the search continues.

The gauge faces are sometimes easily fixable. The white faces often will come off with a bit off heat.

The fact that he's telling stories about them would make me walk.

He's not had the car long and is definitely not the original owner so he doesn't know enough to sell the car properly. There may be more hidden that he's not disclosing.

From what I can see, I would say it's a $5k car. It is in decent shape.

In your first post you asked how to determind if it is real?

Two things besides the invoice will tell.
1. Tag on the radiator support will say ASC, usually a second tag I think.
2. The VIN starting with 1MHBP is a special odered incomplete Capri. Regularl Capri VIN would be 1MEBP. Some ACSs were built from regular Capris. We do not kow of any other manufacturer that used the 1MHBP incomplete vehicle VIN.

As usual, I agree with Mike. What really irks me is that these dealers would not buy one of these cars for more than $800 but they think they are gold.
