I just bought a Side Rocker Kit for a 90 model for my McLaren from
ASC Mclaren.com.

I'm sure many of you already know that Ford used these on the 93 Cobra as well. I have almost all of the parts to install the "Cobra" body kit on my Mc.

Anyhow. I guess I'm wondering, is it me or are the prices on the website astronomical? $750 for a top? I can get an Electron top from 50resto.com for $200 less.

I guess I'm pissed right now because when I ordered the Side Rocker Kit it said SIDE ROCKER KIT. Which would lead me to believe that I was purchasing a "KIT" (an all inclusive ready to paint/install deal) for $250.
The side rocker panels for the earlier models are listed directly above and they say "L or R" on them and "each" in the price box.

Here is the e mail Henry sent me after throwing down $285 for the "KIT".

I have a few more sets available. However it is probably a bit confusing on the site but the price is $250.00 for each side, not for the pair. So if you want both sides please add $250.00 for your order or I can refund your money if you didn't realize it and don't want them.
Thanks
Henry

Is this outrageous or am I just venting?

Its always been this way. This is the price you pay for owning any mclaren or even a regular capri. Trust me - I know , I have 2 mclarens and 2 regular capris 5.0's. Kind of upsets me when I can buy anything for a regular 87-93 5.0 for almost nothing, but hey - like I said, We pay to be different. I can't blame Hank for doing that. Sure - I don't like the prices either, but one thing Hank has to realize and probably does. One day, there will hardly be NO mclarens left, then he is out of business. Maybe not in his lifetime or my lifetime, but eventually - it will happen (just common sense) - hence the high prices (just my guess). Something I don't want to think about, but it WILL happen....

Hank's prices are high, granted. But here's the why of it. Many many many years ago, 15 to be fairly close, when some of you were in 1st grade, he had the idea to approach ascMcLaren and purchase all of their inventory. Not a cheap deal. Then haul it down to Florida AND build a warehouse to store it in! (and) Then sit on the stuff for - oh say - a dozen years, until folks started looking for this stuff. The rest is called PROFIT, that dirty unamerican word, that's really so American, after all!
If it did say "kit" and it was for one, I do think he needs to delete the word "kit". It should say "one side". ascMcLaren tossed tons of stuff right into the dumpster, before Hank came along, and would have put everything there, so in a big way we are lucky that he did what he did, don't 'ya think ?

This is copied and pasted from the ascmcalren website. I noticed that there are 3 pieces to the Front Air Dam "kit".

Front Air Dam Kit 84-86 3864 420.00

Side Rocker Skirt
L or R
84-88 3254 180.00ea

Side Rocker Kit 89-90 8356 250.00ea

I can't help feeling like I've been baited and switched on this deal. I'm sure Hank is a good guy and all, but for him to pull that kind of move just doesn't sit well with me.

I guess Sandy has a point though, if Hank is going to make a profit he better be prepared to take full advantage of his inventory. Whatever it takes.

It does say "prices are subject to change without notice" on the website. Yeah as soon as I want to buy something the price immediately goes up! Thanks dude!

Note to self-

Before buying from Hank, prepare lipstick and lubricant first.

Thanks. I'm finished now. I will have my killer looking McLaren when all is said and done.

Sandy's right. While the prices are high, we should all be thankful that Hank had the guts and foresight to purchase those parts and wait for the chance to make a buck on it. Supply and demand. It's the American way.

Bryan, you are right about the "kit" issue, however. Ads need to be unambiguous.

Before buying from Hank, watch for his auctions on eBay. You can score a deal once in awhile.

Hank e mailed me this morning thanking me for my 2nd purchase. He said that the website will be updated to avoid this "confusion" in the future.

The side skirts on the '93 Cobra were the same as the '89-'90 ascMcLaren's but not the same as the '84-'88 cars.
Bryan started this thread asking about the skirt kit he ordered for a 1990 car which would be the same.
My initial thought was that they were not the same either until I realized that they were talking about the the '89-'90 style skirts.

I would love to, but Fred Flintstone knows more about working confusers than I do. Mike will be along soon and he has the answers.
