I need to recover some recardo seats in an 86 vert. I have looked at ascmclaren.com but did not see anything.

Can anyone offer up any recomendations......

LOL....... ok.....I am from West Virginia.......I guess that should be recaro seats............

Email or Call Hank as www.ascmclaren.com

Not everything he has is on his web site.

Worst case, you could go to an upholstery shop and have it done custom.

I wonder if he is any better than Recaro. They wanted $950 a seat for new leathers.... Ouch!

Ouch indeed. I need to get my seats done, too, and I suspect that the guy with a little shop on the bad side of town can do a fine job for a less money than that, including labor.

I thought Hank would do them. Shipping $$$ becomes and issue. It seems Recaro has had numerious problems with shipping damage as well.

Bet bet is to find a local Recaro dealer that will install new factory covers. I was given a price $900 per seat installed. A bit high but it was also from a high priced neighborhood. I thought I might find it a bit cheaper if I shopped around.

Are all the Recaros lacking padding on the bottom? My wife had to drive the car for 6 hours and was not impressed. My SVO was so very comfortable for the same ride. Maybe I need new foam too.

FYI It is not a one piece back cover. The center back actually floats (seperate) with the lumbar inflated. It would be a lot more work for a custom shop to make it.

I didn't think the Recaro were that comfortable either. The seat bottoms are kind of hard and flat.

For the time being, I installed a pair of 87 T-bird Turbo Coupe seats and Mustang seat tracks. They even match the interior of the car (blue) and look like it came that way. I'm into the seats for <$100 thanks to eBay. I'm holding on to the Recaros until I can afford to have them done.

DaytonaTim,

Don't laugh, but there are actually "Recardo" seats. They are extremely cheap (in price, don't know about quality) knock-offs of Recaro's "competition-style two piece seats.

Your best bet is a local custom shop. You could actually get Saleen covers for less than $900. I had my Flofits recovered custom with the ASC McLaren logo embroidered in the seat backs for a lot less than that. BTW, The Flofits are much more comfortable to me on a long ride.

Custom interior shops are kind of few and far between here in WV.

I wonder, you know, half the expense of having car seats redone is in the making of the paterns for the new material from the old car seats. If we could get 2, 3, or 4 people who want new seat covers made, for the same style of seat, we could probably get a discount from a custom shop.

If we just had seat covers made, we could get any upholstery shop to install them.

What do ya'll think?

Did you talk to Hank yet? Get a quote from him first. He probably has a place lined up to do this work....and they probably already have the patterns, etc.

Yeah, I sent Hank an email. He said he could do it but I would have send my seats to him. I think I would rather spend $200 in shipping money on something else, like some nice OEM seats from some other car.

Hank did not give me an estimated price, so I don't know what the price for the actual recovering would be.

I guess I was hoping that someone might live near Tijuana or something where you could get some made pretty cheap. I am not that worried about keeping the car original, I just want a nice comfortable ride.

If what "svo413" says is true then that's probably why Hank doesn't have any upholstery for sale and he needs you to send in the seats to do them right.

You could ask him if there was any way that you could do them yourself if he could supply the pieces.

Sandy, The seats were purchased new (tan) and used in a 88 coupe. My cousin then had them redone in dark gray with the McLaren logo (he owned the Mc before me). I wanna say the recovering was $500.

Oh. I asked because Hank had a 1990 'Vert (asc) in Sea Foam Aqua 4-sale for a looong time on his site. Perhaps you saw it. The prior owner had trashed the OEM seats than had been recovered in ascMcLaren sew style in Oxford White, and replaced them with the flo fit seats that he had then recovered in white leather with the ascMcLaren logo embrioarded into the backrests. I wondered it this was your car, prior. They were very nice, but not stock. I like stock.
