Supposedly 35k miles. Sport Seats. Air dam. And CHROME interior bezels
Note the GS on the hatch.
Too bad it got smooshed.

I cannot see how this car could be a GS and not an RS !
Black door Frames, windshield & hatch mouldings, RS seats & dash fascia, RS wheels...V-8, I mean everything about it say RS and NOT GS. I don't get it! Do you? Even the lower two-tome accent panel in charcoal. What's GS about it ? It's got black antenna (VS Chrome) the correct RS grille, too. Black exterior key holes, too. I think it's a case of a GS emblem being installed in error. Has the "5.0" correctly on the side. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Yeah, I agree with you sandy. Another mis badged RS hatch.
There was one that came up over at F.E.P. Not only did it have
the GS tag on hatch it also had the GS chrome grill. The owner...I
thought said he bought it new like that.
This error only seems to occur on the 85 model's....any idea's
B.T.W. What a damn shame about this car. Probably could of got
some descent money for this clean, one owner, low mileage example. |

I don't think that the damage is all that bad! Finding Parts? Thats another story, but a Mustang door could be used. The hardest part would be the front fender. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Trust me...that damage can be repaired. It may not be 100% perfect but it would pull out (with a frame machine of course)...slap on a door and a fender. It all depends if the value of the car is greater than the sum of its parts though (obviously the insurance company didn't think so and it got a salvage title).
Read one of the comments...somebody was ready to swoop in and gut it for the drive train.
Capris get no respect.

Aside from the difference in color and damage, that's my car. RS everything, except for the chrome bezels and the GS badge. Long live the 1985 craziness. _________________ Robert

I agree....but its got the GS on the hatch and it appears to be a very unmolested car.
I would LOOOOOVE to get my hands on a window sticker and see how it is printed. Would it actually say GS?

I think it's a case of somebody not having enough to do, or wanting to stir the pot, regarding Capri of model year 1985. Not only do we have RS(s) running around with GS badging, if you recall, 1985 was also the year when in January or so they completely dropped th RS badging nd renamed the car 5.0, deleting the "RS" from being diebossed into the side body moulding, and a plain piece replacing the recessed RS piece, and the car being renamed "5.0" making the series the GS and the 5.0 rather than GS & RS.
Do you think it had something to do with the RS name? I mean first building RS(s) re-badged as GS(s) and then dumping the RS name completely in favor of 5.0 name. There was SOMETHING going on with the RS name, but I guess we'll never know. The car seems to have worn 3 nameplates during 1 model year. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. I'm wondering if a Window Sticker ever surfaces from one of these "GS" cars that we will not see "GS" on it anywhere...but see "5.0L"....
To your average customer, they are not going to make the connection that the "5.0L" is a higher trim level...it just describes what engine is in the car. So he still thinks he's getting a GS.
Another possibility....just conjecture....
Let's say its 1984 and Ford tells the dealer they are dropping the RS for the "5.0L". Would the dealers complain that its confusing to customers? It was confusing to me when I first heard it.
-------------------------------------------
Dealer: Here is the Capri GS and here is the Capri 5.0L.
Customer: Why did Ford start with the stripped down package in order to get the 5.0?
Dealer: Well no...its got everything the GS has plus Sport Seating and a front air dam and a standard 5.0 engine.
Customer: So why do they call it just a "Capri"? Sounds like the 1981 Capri I am trading in. It was the most basic version too.
Dealer: It's not just a "Capri" its a "Capri 5.0L".
Customer: Yes, you told me that. Can you get power windows, locks and cruise in the base Capri with the 5.0L? Or do I have to upgrade to the GS to get the nicer options?
Dealer:
-------------------------------------
Understand? If I was a dealer I might just order a dozen or so GS badges just to make customers happy....or complain to Ford to put something on the car to make it sound special.
