ok, had me going........ I thought you meant a triple red car, which I'd never seen.

so its a red/red/black car......... ok.

It's 1 of 21 in '87.

The sun is so destructive of red paint. Seems to fade faster than other colors, yellow too.

Yea, needs some TLC alright, has cancer too.

All of the 87 and up McLarens were black exterior cars except for the few interior colors that were not available in black exterior. So just about everyone you see is black under the hood. This one is red.

This has been discussed a few times, and I think the general consensus is that they did not all leave Ford for the Mclaren factory as black cars if they were to be painted red. As per Sandy... http://www.ascmclaren.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3443&start=15

Sandy wrote:

RED exterior, with RED interior were used when FoMoCo got a large order from Police, especially interstate roadways.
The red interior would go with both whiteor black extterior, that ascMcLaren would paint. The Red interior, as I mentioned, would go with many asdMcLaren exterior colors, and keep ascMcLaren in enough "mules" to get by, until the "Staties" orders were filled.
The Red interior went with:
White; Black; Red; Gray; Silver; and perhaps 1 or 2 other ascMcLaren hues,

This was initially very confusing to me as there was no black paint on my car anywhere (except on the underside of the hood which could have been replaced). My car from Ford was originally Burgundy, but it was Porsche Red under the hood (there was some red overspray on the nooks and crannies that you couldnt see until you removed components.), but no black when i removed fenders, doors, interior, etc.

I know it has been discussed which is why I alluded to it. My comment was simply you don't see red under the hood very often.. Or a red car with a red interior.

Yeah, not sure how I feel about the red interior on a red car. My door panels, dash, and center column are in good shape, but my seats need recovering. In the next couple of months I hope to decide if I keep everything red or change it up a bit.
