Per usual, the total made count is wrong!
Wouldn't 'ya think like maybe 1 outta 10
might get it right ????
0,479 = 1987
1,015 = 1988
0,247 = 1989
0,065 = 1990
1,806 = Total Mustang McLaren Made
Is it reeally THAT hard, or is Sandy expecting too much ??
This is the car that belonged to the guy that once called me trying to locate a source for the "Design Concept by Peter Muscat" Plaque and I
hooked him up with Hank.
Ever happy after his $35.00 purchase, he called to tell me that he now has it like it should be, with a plaque on both sides, Right!!
Yup -I told him > WRONG. He just assumed it and never asked either I or Hank.
Next ?? was, "How do I get it off"? Obviously he left it on...... _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Hahah. Too funny. Actually I would like it on both sides too.
Note the wheels...
TYP1934A (If I decipher it right)
Those wheels have the caps that load from the inside vs the TYP34F wheels.

What's funnier yet, is if you look at the picture of the rear of the car, you see his buddy scratching his rear, and he is going for it! I think they missed a edit!

Anyone catch the misspelled "MCLARIN" license plate?
I mean I shouldn't talk! Mine is MCLARN but that's because when I got it we could only have 6 digits. 5 years later they increased it to 7 digits, and people keep telling me to "buy a vowel for $50.00" (e) _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and have only recently started watching for a decent McLaren. I guess I'm looking for something with moderate mileage and still unmolested. I'll probably drive the car 1000 miles a year. At first glance this one looks like it might fit my description. But since I'm new to these cars, I'd like to seek guidance from the groups wisdom and knowledge. Carfax is inconclusive. It reports nothing bad but there arn not enough data points to tell if the odometer has rolled over. From what you see, where do you think the price should fall?

If I say something you already know, I'm sorry about that. I don't know what you mean about "not enough data points", but on a complete CARFAX report, there would be a list of times the car has been inspected, emission tested and registered. This list contains where it was done, when and the mileage on that date. That chain of events, small or large, helps you determine if the mileage stated at time of sale is somewhat accurate or not.
Hope tht helps. _________________ Former owner of 85 vert, #245 |

The car looks pretty spiffy to me...a few cosmetic problems but nothing major. Sandy is pretty good at getting ballpark numbers on verts....hopefully he will throw one out

Glk - There are only 3 entries in the CARFAX history.
9/22/88 - Ship Date
8/4/03 - Registration issued in GA, no mileage listed
3/17/04 - Title issued in OH, 42,374 mi
Current mileage is listed at 42,791. That is a big hole between 88 and 04 that could have seen an odometer flip. I guess I'd need to see some service records to be convinced it hasn't flipped. But, that probably won't happen if this is a dealer that has the car now.

It's not too bad, but the 2 items it needs are expensive. It's very obvious that former owner never bothered to learn to correctly put down/up the top, or allowed others do it any old way. It's a replacement top (1990 sew style) on a 1988, anyhow, it's full of freyed areas and has holes, too. You need a roof. $700.00 for a NOS.
El Cheapos can be had for less, but it's just not worth the $250.00 savings.
The tonneau cover needs to be replaced, too. Expensive, as you need BOTH the tonneau cover, and the seperate applique + paint on the tonnea & installation. In total, might run you $1,000.00.
Otherwise, and especially interior-wise, she looks above average. I'd say around $5,200 I'd check out. You be in it for $ 6,500 after repairs & sales tax & plates. _________________ Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

that's too bad about the vague entries in CARFAX/motor vehicle records. Good luck _________________ Former owner of 85 vert, #245 |
