I am in the process of obtaining this car

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4530755035&fromMakeTrack=true

What do you guys think of it. I know is is not original, but exactly what is not original (besides what he lists in his ad). I am not getting the car as a restoration project but rather a sunny day grocery getter for my wife.

I have a 1990 Thunderbird Super Coupe and I am planning on transplanting it's engine into the vert, just to give it a little bit of kick.

Since the car is so rare would I be doing an injustice to it?

Any comments you guys have would be much appriciated.

This particular car was specifically built to have the v6 so it has some history to it that you would be tossing aside. I for one would like to see it keep its v6...but anyways...

What's wrong from what I can see:
Front Grill
Hood Scoop
Light COvers
Rear Wing
Wheels
Wrong Front Bumper Cover
Missing Radio.
Ratty interior.

It was probably slammed in the front at some point.

Does the VIN back up the 6 Cyl engine?

If so, the interior has been totally changed.
The Recaros & premium armrests were N.A. on the 6.

The car is a mess, period.

The vin does not have an "M" or even an "F" for a v8 so I think "3" must be a code for a v6...I would need to check my code book at home to be certain.

Yes,

The eighth digit in the vin is "3" which designates that is was originally a 3.8 V6 car.

....if your going to give it to the Wife..Why modify it to go get
groceries. Laughing

Did this car really sell for more then $20,000 new.. Even with
the 3.8L and starting with the GS model instead of the RS.

Well the wife likes a car with a little kick too

I don't know what the original price was for this car. I am pretty new to the Mclaren scene. I am more of a diehard Mustang and Cobra fan.

I really don't know what the current value of this car is either. I am trading a custom built car for it. As you probably know..... a custom built car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

Hummm, totally stock and original it is not, but what a cute little car! Heck, the guy has the original wheels and a bunch of other parts included with the sale. With a little TLC, this would be a real eye catcher going down the road. Hell, for a 19 year old car it don't look bad! Obviously, the seats have been a little abused, but they can be repaired.

I say "good luck" to you on your bidding and may your wife enjoy the new ride... Cool

You only get one original wheel with the car.

Not bidding on the car. A buddy of mine owns it and we are horsetrading cars. I go down in a month to pick it up. I hope I have enough room in the back of my truck to haul all the spare parts he has for it.

Cool - Kewl DaytonaTim! Even though the experts seem to think this is a piece of junk and have concerns on only one original wheel being available, it looks like you will be getting a fun car to tool around in. Keep us posted on the spare parts you recieve just in case you should decide to get rid of a few pieces that actually are original equipment to the McLaren's. The way spare parts are going you might be able to obtain decent funding for your intended mods... Wink

I will most definately be getting rid of the one original wheel. Maybe that will pay for the U-haul rental. What are one of these wheels worth?

New from Hank they are not cheap....but I bought a set of four decent ones off from Ebay for $350....shipped....and with center caps. They were orange but painted black.

So maybe $40-80 for a nice used wheel.

Mike what is incorrect about the front bumper cover? It looks to have the 85/86 trim strip. And the grill?

I'm trying to learn what is correct and what is not.
