It's been a long wait, but I am finally an owner!

Pics will come as soon as work slows!

My car is missing the serial plate. I am curious if there is a way to find out precisely what number my car is. Any help would be fantastic.

She is an 88 ... end of the VIN is 279523

also curious if she is already in your registry? ...if not...here it is...

Thanks a million!

The online registry can be found here
http://www.ascmclaren.org/phpBB/index.php?c=4
It looks like your car is not on the list yet.

The serial number thing is a tricky question because the cars were not built in order by vin. On top of that serial numbers were applied in a random order. Basicly ASC had a bucket of dash plaques and just reached in, pulled one out, and that's the number the car got.

So ... no way of knowing correctly which # to use for a replacement plaque?

I am almost 100% certain that this car spent its entire life in the Dallas area. I have every receipt for everything up to and including oil changes. At the dealership it was purchased from.

All signs point towards this car having 118,000 actual miles.

JF279523 is in a group of 86 consecutive P40E VINs (JF279488 through JF279573). There have been a few ascMcLarens discovered in that group so far.

I have systematically crunched through all of the numbers and reverse math. If the plate numbers were to actually follow the flow of vin#'s, then that would make my car number 1427 (including the addition of the 87's).

My question is this:
Would it matter anything if I were to get a plate engraved with this number on it and mount it in my car?

Pros / Cons / Thoughts ???

Plate numbers didn't follow vins though.

The cars were ordered from Ford, sent to asc in no particular order who put them in the asc holding lot in no particular order and had a porter pull them as needed from the lot in no particular order.

Then, if I remember what Sandy said, at the end of the car's build, they applied the plaque by pulling it out of a bucket of plaques in no particular order.

Aside from that...if you get a numbered plaque in the vicinity you think it might be in...the only problem is that you'll just need to get another plaque if that number ever surfaces...but it's probably not going to make anyone care which way or another.

Sandy had the build lists for the 86+ cars but I do not have it.

I understand. Is there a possibility of that information having been passed on to anyone else within this community?

Spoke with a previous owner today that informed me that they were almost entirely certain that the plaque # was 1580!

Unless anyone else has staked a claim to that #, it will be on the new plaque!
