Hello guys just was tearing down the engine in my 85 Coupe and wanted to know what mods were done to this from ASC or Ford...number matching vin on block and car, what I have found during tear down is car has Motorsports H-pipe and duel exhaust, internal mods to engine. Pop up Pistons, roller cam with no idenfication markings, push rods have a collar on them I have never seen before, D1OE rods and she is .060 over, markings on Pistons read 7061. Gaskets Ford. Not sure if this was owner done or ASC. Any help, info or ideas would be nice. My car is vin #605439 |

Most likly mods where done by somebody other then ford. No real reason that Ford/ASC would bore it .060 over and chance problems with the motor |

Years ago on the old Yahoo message board there were rumors of some interesting mods done to the first few cars. But we can't substantiate anything. One guy on the old board I think says he tore down an 85 coupe engine and found very odd things.(You'll have to hunt in there for it http://www.ascmclaren.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=71)
I tend to agree that boring out the cylinders .060 seems unlikely for a brand new engine. Buuut....if it's like one of the first cars...and they were looking at increasing engine HP, would they try that? May it have been a test mule for asc? Prototype? No way to know....but probably not.
Saleen didn't even go that far at that time. Yanking the engine out, boring it and putting it back in would never be enough of a selling point with the customer to make the cost worth it.
