I found this ASC McLaren vs Saleen Mustang video while playing around on YouTube https://youtu.be/dQIR9qLQIig
They got most of it right except for the notion that the ASC was built off of a GT. _________________ '06 Z4M Roadster

What's always been unfortunate to me is how little people know about these cars - ASCs. You'd think they'd be more well known. Ford didn't market them well from '85 - '90, for starters. They totally hit a home run with the design of the ASC McLaren - especially the custom top and tonneau and the sleeker raked A pillar windshield area. Really makes for an attractive convertible.
Where they majorly failed IMHO, is that they didn't upgrade the 302 to be a little more powerful than a standard GT. Engine was totally untouched. They did do some suspension upgrades, but thats it. ASC or Ford should've included some minor engine upgrades - simple as that.
The Saleen has design AND engine mods. Look how much more well known and successful the Saleen Mustangs are vs. the ASCs. _________________ 1988 ASC McLaren #688 |

Underhood enhancements would've been a good selling point. Even if it were just decorative. I'd love to get some weight measurements on a stock ASC to see if they gained or lost after the conversion. That'll affect performance in a major way. Mine is a shell now and will never be stock again. It'll be good, but not stock. _________________ '06 Z4M Roadster
