|
|
I just bought 1988 and the it seems that the pull-down motor is not working and need help trouble shooting. My top is in the up position with the motor locked up.....
I can release the tonneau panel via the switch, which allows me to raise the tonneau panel about 5", which gives hardly any room to try to remove the pull down motor assembly. ( I know it would come out easy if I could get some kind of reasonable access to the motor - aka if the top was down...)
1) So if my top is in the up position, is there an easier way to have access to the motor than what is described above? Example , .manual release the tonneau cover from the tonneau panel?
2) Assuming the motor is bad, where is best place to buy the motor? The part is extremely expensive at https://www.ascmclaren.com |

I have a Capri so it is a different set up, not if they used the same motor or not but the Carpi used a Cadillac motor from the '80's like the Eldorado. I have bought a few of them now and just changed over my switch/connector via unscrewing it to have the correct wiring set up.
I'm sure there is some info buried in here about the 87+ mustangs - do some searches on the forums here, there is more info in 20 different places than ppl can remember, haha.
You can try the facebook group too, I know there are some mustang owners there too. |

The motor is in the trunk, so you should be able to get to it with the top in either position.
Search through this forum, there are several feeds on the top motor and where you can get them MUCH cheaper.
You might want to do a little testing, first. I would jiggle the wires coming from the motor while engaging the switch. You might find that there is a bad ground, or a loose/broken wire. Or, maybe there is something wrong with the switch. _________________ Dan
