My car had part of the original rear valance installed when I got it. The finishing strip was attached to the valance with staples and then the assembly was attached to the vehicle with screws. The finishing strip hank sold me was not the same as the original. His replacement looked like the plastic edge of a wood table. Think folding table or office desk. It was ribbed in the area that would go between the valance and bumper. The original was thin and smooth. I ended up attaching mine with rivits.
