Hi all! I just acquired an 1988 ASC McLaren and I’m trying to figure out how to work the tonneau cover/top. I’ve read several posts as well as reviewed the links to the service manual with no luck. Basically, the tonneau switch works and is unable to unlatch the lock using the toggle switch behind the driver seat, but I can’t seem to understand how to get the tonneau open all the way or get the top to fold.

A couple question:

1. Is there a motor that powers the top to fold and open all the way?

2. How do I properly pull the tonneau up and back when it is propped open? I can’t seem to pull it far enough to get the striker plates from disengaging from their respective “slots.”

3. Does the bottom of the convertible top somehow detach from the tonneau cover? If so, how do I get it to detach?

Welcome...the tops are manually operated. Once you push and hold the button... You'll hear the top release motor turning so it "unscrews" the top pin at the tonneau. After it releases the top, push tonneau rearward and up.

Thanks! I actually figured it out this evening a couple hours after I posted his question. Didn’t realize that I had to hold the button down...

All went well and I got to take a little cruise with my son McLaren style😎
