1985 ASC coupe with factory? Sunroof door tag pic

Post by mandra »

After like 20 tries I finally got a reasonable picture of my door tag.

Image

Does this show that it was in fact factory? :shock:

Yes.

Here is how your car decodes:

03/85 = March 1985
1ME = MErcury
B = Active Belts
P = Passenger Car
79 = Capri
M = 5.0
7 = Check digit
F = Dearborn
F = 1985
612848 = CUN (did I get that number right?)
1C = Black?????
XP = Charcoal Trim
15 = DSO for New York
xxxx = DS32 code (can't read it)
61D = Capri
PA = Int Trim = Charcoal Grey
R = Y = Delete
C = Sunroof
M = 2.73:1 Traction Lock Rear
2 = 5 Speed Tranny
??BB = Spring Codes

I find the code for black interesting. Remember ALL these cars had special blue paint which was not supposed to be available. *MY* tag does not have ANY paint code on it. *BUT* the code 3L for midnight blue is on the radiator support tag. Can you get the codes from that?

I did the best I could at night with a flashlight. Also a bit of a pain to see around the cooler.

Anyway,

capri
612848 61D M MO
3LL DF ST
AC 06 HB
WD MBW D2
EL-A 06 2 X 2

I may have messed up some of the lines they are on as looking at an angle around the cooler was a pain.

Thanks for the de-code BTW
:D

Yep I think my car is a bit of an oddball. I am really interested in the rims though. Mine are NOT Orange. They have the polished face with anthracite powder coat.

When we bought the car in 1990 it had these wheels and they did not look new. Some curb rash on the right front and a bit of staining around the lug nuts. Other odd thing is my 2 verts both came with the Kenwood. This car came with the post Alpine.

I'll say both of these could have been changed but just think it a bit of a coincidence that the parts are ASC but abnormal.

Regards,

John

Only two things do I see that coud be "oddball"

1. The wheels. All Midnight Navy Blue cars came with the orange wheels. Now, if a dealer had ANOTHER McLaren Coupe in stock and the buyer of the blue car hated the orange wheels and wanted the anthracite rims of another McLaren in stock (could have been a 'Vert, too) the dealer would switch rims in order to make the sale. This ##it is done all the time. The other is the Sun Roof. What type is it ? A pop-up manual that the glass can be lifted & removed from the car ? A power operated one where you push a button and the panel slides backward ?

It's a regular sunroof with a storage bag and the straps in the hatch to hold it down. I have seen many mustangs with the same one which is lucky because I plan to buy one of the weatherstrip kits they are now making for them. Mine doesn't leak but I don't want to wait

I wish it was electric though. :)

I agree on the wheel swap possibility. The vert would have looked pretty funny with the orange wheels though.

The other odd thing is my doortag with that black designation. It almost seems this one wasn't destined from the start to be an ASC. Nah must have been a really cute girl that did a "special order"

If it was electric then it definitely wouldn't have been factory.

The "C" code denotes a sunroof with removable glass. The other code "S" would be for a sliding sunroof.

I'm pretty sure that is the 1 & only 1985 Coupe that I have ever heard of with the Sun Roof. Sure wish we knew the story behind it, but that will never happen.....Do you have the D32 code reverse stamped on your radiator support bar tag ?
