Re: New owner 86 convertible

I see only 2 black/Gray cars on my informal list.
#195 in FL, 2023 with 43,000 miles and automatic
#427 in NY, 2012 with 68,000 miles and 5 speed. We know the number 427 is not original.

Any of these match your car?

I will add it to the database here.

Re: New owner 86 convertible

Welcome. I have not seen that car come up before. What state was it in previously?

Carpet replacement in an 85

Does anyone have some insight on carpet replacement? I would assume the carpet was cut in half due to the welded console support. Unfortunately, my rear bin cover was redone years ago by gluing new materials over top the old stuff. This makes removing the console cover risky. My carpet was replace ...

Re: ASC/McLaren Dealerships List

A quick look shows 84-02, 84-04 and 84-21 were sold there.

Re: ASC/McLaren Dealerships List

Not exactly sure why, but a local MCHUGH LINCOLN-MERCURY OF LOS GATOS, INC. sold several early cars. In my data collection, I came across several single digit serial numbers sold by this dealer. I would expect they had an inside connection. Logic would expect the early cars to be sold in MI.

IIRC ...

info

The only info I see is your posting to the database back in July. I have not recorded it on my spreadsheet. You might try searching this site for Black Cherry since there were so few of them.

Funny thing, there was another one about the same time. Found this on my spreadsheet.

info

There is no real as built history on most of these cars. Some info was recorded along the way. The database here shows the following info was recorded probably by the previous owner. I also keep a database but it was not listed there. You can get a Marti Report which will show as built by Ford ...

Water Leaks

We all pretty much expect convertibles to leak. My 85 was no different but not horrible either. I never paid much attention to it as we do not get rain from April to October. After October, the car gets covered when not in use.

I can see the water damage at the right front lower door panel. Often I ...

Still looking

I had a few leads on center caps and just the decal. Nothing has come thru. It seems the 84-86 front loading caps are extremely hard to find. I may have to start looking at buying used wheels.

I searched Amazon and found some center cap possibilities. Set for $6 was my first try. They came in a ...

Motors

Due the time period our cars were developed and the fact they were not high models, no stepper motors were used. The Mustang/Capri was a low end car product.

Having said that, the ASC cars get even less support on aftermarket parts. Fortunately/unfortunately, one supplier has supported the car ...

The seat belt/retractor

The seat belt/retractor should be stock Ford mustang parts. The retractor plastic housing is color coded for the type. It seems Sandy looked into this and determined 88 used stock convertible seat belts. It should be molded into the plastic housing. I know my 85 does not retract fully when not used ...

A relay is needed to use the left and right brake light signals to trigger the 3rd light. Otherwise, it would turn on the 3rd light with the one turn signal.

When the 3rd brake light came out, many people had to have it. Ford even offered kits for the pre 86 cars. Funny, people didn't have the same thought when seatbelt use was mandated.

The hardest part was wiring up the relay. I'm not sure what the 3rd brake light looks like on an 84/85 ASC but ...
