Stock ford speakers for the capri/mustang is 6x8, at least for 86. asc's have smaller openings in the rear hatch? Damn, someone replaced my rear panels to as the 6x8's fit perfectly

Kyle, 85 <> 86.

Stock Ford speakers are indeed more like 6x8...most people say 5x7. Why I do not know.

For 85, it seems that for some cars at least, asc put 6" round speakers in the back.

For 86, they went with 6x9 speakers...which were a hair larger than the stockers. Sandy's car has the 6x9 Kenwoods with the factory rectangular speaker covers.

Honestly, we will never know 100% what cars got what as there pops up weirdities all the time. It appears asc was putting in things however they could do it.

That is what makes it so much fun!! Keeps us all guessing and looking!! My 85 for sure has round ones in the back and they fit perfectly!

Fancy covers

Post by stangmodifier »

Could those things next to the valve covers be some kind of fancy covers for the down tubes that connect to the dual snorkles? The heat riser tubes?

Yeah, I checked my car, it has the stock 6x8 speaker cut outs. so much of the interior of my car was changed so I'll never know what is still stock and what isn't I think. 5x7s and 6x8s have their mounting holes in the same spot so they are interchangable so maybe thats what I had

I dont think so, the down tubes take heat off the headers. These appear to go right into the valve covers.

Sandy my 85 coupe came with the 140 speedo. I think all 85 ASC Coupes had the 140 speedo.

Most did not. The brochure shows the other one. Every '85 that I have seen has the other one. One of the sheets I have that was an internal within asc told employees of changes for '86 coupes and one of the items was listed as "New 140 HPH Speedometer"

My 85 asc did not have it. I think it was the original speedo but of course I cannot be 100% sure.

Why would they put 85mph speedos in these cars, I can do over 85mph in third gear?

Both of the 85 coupes I have only go to 85. I believe most of them I have ever seen in person and through this amazing box (computer) have also been stock 85 miler units. The 86 vert I had did have a 140 from Mclaren.

84 & 85 got 85MPH speedos and 86s got the 140. Exception: The 1986 EuroCoupe that got the 85 .... but the 140 was an option on that model.
