will anyone care?!?!?!?!?!?
will anyone care?!?!?!?!?!?
ive noticed you guys are not happy with non original cars like i noticed sandy or someone said "bummer" the car was converted to 5 lug
should i go with the original look and function!? i want the car to be fast and really its paretty far gone, id have to have all the original engine parts which are gone, the body kit i can get from hank but i guess i can hold off and get another car and make it fast!? buttt my car is decently quick as it is and i planned on black paint, comp orange custom stirping with paint not a sticker!, 5 lug, built 8.8 rear or an 9' i can get for free (the housing have it cut and new brakcets) and a full suspension, i want the car to go to the track easlily and not roll and then pull 11's on the strip and dominate the street. is this bad orrrrrrr? i know its my car and i can do waht i want but like i said i could always make it purdy and original (worth more?) and have a fast car in the drive way (mclaren would be in the garage of course!)

Shaine, here's my take.
Let's say that you suddenly come into a desposable $100,000 (Hundred Grand) and you have unlimited buying power to make that kitty into a barn burning, take no prisners, bat outta hell stormer.
Guess what? In time, and not very long...you are going to meet up with a person with a FASTER car than you have. A guy with a Ferrari, or a blowen M3 BMW, or a Jag XK-R or something, and you'll will be left sucking dust, and being greatly humbled.
But....... at 150 made for 1985 and of THAT just 100 in Midnight Navy Blue, and ..... what, 22 years later, just how many do you even think are left on the roads of America ??? Lets say 40% (going high)....so there's maybe 60 out across America.
Let's see......THAT would come out to about 1 per state !
'Ya, it's THAT rare. Hot Rodding it, (to me) would be akin to colorizing the ORIGIANAL Mona Lisa !
Just my .02 cents, but you asked, so I told. Be careful out there and a good New Year to you.

I say keep them as original as possible. Maybe do some minor engine mods that don't take it too far from original and some other tasteful mods. After all that's what's made the Mustang hobby what it is...
I think the main reason for this is when you go to sell it, it's much easier to sell a car like this when it's original. After all, these are ~20 year old cars and when you buy one, you buy its history. If you come across one that's been owned several times and each owner does a mod, there's a greater chance to that something gets screwed up along the way and that's going to cost you $$.
If you want a fast car, go buy a regular Mustang/Capri and make it look like an ASC is you'd like...

Keep her stock looking on the outside and inside but do some underhood mods that could be reversed down the road so you have a car you would enjoy more if you're into the horsepower kick.
The thing is about these cars is that like Sandy says, there are only 150 out there (and if youw ant, only 1 of 66 KNOWN to be left!). They are still very affordable so they are still going through the time frame where they get bought up and modified.
The day will come that a modified ascMcLaren coupe will in no way be able to touch the value of a very original one. Unfortunately when that day comes, there will be probably 2 original ones left if that.
IMHO, if you have the ability, snag a Mustang Coupe, or a Capri GS and gut it and make it into a race/track car.

From your brief description of the car it will never be original anyway. I like the idea of keeping it stock looking and modifying things that can't be seen. IMT you can be enjoying the car and having so much fun while showing it off to people wondering what kind of a car it is. That is the exact situation I found myself in with my '88. Now if I had a car with low mileage all original I would try to put it in a bubble inside of a heated garage.

If I had a McLaren with under 10k miles on it, I would leave it totally stock. Otherwise, I would go Mike's route and try to keep apperance stock, but add enhancements to stability and performance.
I'm having a large moral dilema right now with this very topic. I would like to enjoy the car a little bit in the following years but it also needs some restoration work. I have all the original parts and am torn between spending the next year doing a frame off show quality restoration or just slapping some fresh paint on and allowing it to go to "cruise nights" and such. Its a tough one..

I think that this can be settled by the size of your bank account.CKJ wrote:I'm having a large moral dilema right now with this very topic. thanks for the input..but as that one guy said..it will never be original , it has been threw like 4 owners, im the 5th.(engine wise) i have no original engine stuff, only the block and heads, different cam, intake manifold, headers, dist, coil...etc...
the car is NOT low miles, 120,000
it has a 7.5 rear = garbage, not worth being re built so thatwill have to be changed
world class tranny i built for it at UNOH, did keep the stock shifter(hurst is on it now though)
id say mike's way..i like that its DIFFERENT, the body, hatch, colors, i want all that..but might as well make that thing scream under the hood, and the interior..just try to get it to pretty original as best i can
in a PERFECT WORLD id make it 100% original and have no fun except for when i look at it in the garage lol and thats just no fun for me
so ill make it like mikes i think..butttt the color kills me! it does turn heads but its not something i would have thought up my self.. but then again, thats what makes it turn heads!
oh and the bubble car, i will have that one day
AND transmission..they didnt come out with the world class t 5 till 1986 right!? why did my 85 have a world class? first cars to get them since they were so special ??!?!?!?!? my instructor and i wasnt sure (hes big on ford and transmissions, build a t 5 with his eyes closed lol)

I for one am happy with your decision. Mikes car is one awesome car to btw! Enjoy your car and hold onto her forever and it wont ever matter. When you go through that faze of wanting something different keep this car as well. I always hear from people they regret getting rid of their fox style Mustang/ Capri. Unless of course you have a few, then its a matter of which is your favorite lol.
