OK I am officially on the map.

Hopefully if you like to see this idea of a get together survive perhaps it can be made a "sticky".

In regards to the '88's problems I have to disagree unless I see some hardcore stats. Probably cause I own one and am very happy with it having no major problems, knock on dash, hehe. Just a few comments. For starters I would argue if any year is going to have a problem it would be the first model year they work out the bugs with quality control. In '87 they also made the Buick GNX at the same plant and that was freed up by '88. Another key point ASC has worked on over 1 million vehicles! I don't think an additional 500 would cause any reduction in quality.

A sticky is when you make a post stay on top of the list indefinately until you later decide to remove. For instance if this was posted in ASC Discussions and you went to that section of the newsgroup you would see it at the top of the list with some sort of symbol indicating it is special. If there are more then one sticky then they are arranged on top by date received. Hope this helps if not please ask away.

Post by hippys86coupe »

i say lets set the 1rst in new jersey where ever and when ever sandy can attend with his full stable so we can all see what an original unmolested asc is supposed to look like, besides i feel all the info he's provided, for all of us is priceless , the least we members could do is base the event near sandy. just my opinion . Boy, thanks! I'm all for that! If I had an estate, or a 3 million dollar home you could certainly all stay there for freebiee. But, sadly I do not. That would be real good. It's very hard to hire 3 flatbeds to take your 3 Macs to a show. Driving them opens them up to possible damage, either a flying kicked up stone/rock from a Semi which would do a 90-degree turn to hit my windshield! Plus, it adds mileage - a real No No ! So, they really don't get to go out much.

I'm 35 minutes from New York City. GardenState Pkwy Exit 148. - - but there is like nothing to do here. It's really not a destination kinda area.

A really nice place (52 miles from me, I would bring one car) is Titusville, NJ, where Geo. Washigton crossed th Delaware River. It's a beautiful scenic park, picnic area, scerery unlike any other in NJ and good walking areas, and a big softball diamond. There are also motels & hotels in thr area.Google Washington's Crossing PA/NJ

I was wondering if we were going to have to vote on which car of yours comes out of the stable lol. Do you have a park nearby that we can all meet at? We can try to reserve a party if so. Dont worry about putting us up we can camp in your backyard just have the misses make some pancakes for about 50 of us lol jk.

We do have a beautiful park in Bloomfield, called Brookdale Park. In the summertime they have old rock & roll concerts there.

50 pancakes coming up We live across the street from a county park, but cars are not allowed in there. :(

Many things were stated especially the need for regional shows. I dont see it practical for those in say Arizona to make it to Michigan. Also if there is enough in the NY/NJ area having one close to Sandy would be nice. Either way we are all going to have fun and represent our cars.

Nick :)

PS I wish I could make it to Michigan as well, just to far to drive. Someday I would love to fly in.

Nick, going back to #1 in this thread, actually the first "ascMcLaren 2-Seat Roadster" was the 1984 Mercury Capri, not the 1987 Mustang. So, it was not about "getting used to building this car {Mustang}. The problem was 1,015 orders, when they (ascMcLren) was geared up to do 500 or so.

The fact that so many (such as yours) are excellent, is a credit to ascMcLaren. However, even thou many people on even this site have "no problem" examples, many people who have written & phoned me over the past 17 years have had a textbook full of problems with their examples, and (going very conservative, here) I'd say that better than 60% had 1988s. Now, with 50 in 1984, 257 in 1985, 245 in 1986, 479 in 1987, 1,015 in 1988, 247 in 1989 and 65 in 1990, we have a total of 2,358 units, of which the 1988s accounted for 43-percent, yet around 60% of callers with problems have 1988s. Yet, like yourself, there are 100s of 1988 owners with zero problems, who have written or called just for questions covering 100s of topics.
As of late, due to their age, and pricing filtering down to a level where younger people are buying them, and previous owers have "Personalized" them (Ain't I being kind, here!) the questions have turned to "Was my car suppossed to have pin striped rocker panels and a Chrysler hood ornament" - Okay, not really, but a good example.

Somethngs ex-owners have done are truly neat, however. Have found a car where owner brought refrigeration into the two storage "pockets" behind the front seats. The motor to power is in the trunk and can be turned on/off at will. He can even make ICE !

so your saying that its not practical for someone from Arizona to travel to Michigan but it is practical for someone from Arizona to travel even further to Jersey just so Sandy can attend?

also why would you plan a show around 1 person who probably wont even bring his car? that makes no sense.

i never said that the meet/show in Michigan was going to be the be-all/end-all of asc shows. i just said we are going to have a meet like we did last year.
on a side note, since Michigan had the most ASC sales, it would only seem correct that a show in Michigan would draw the most cars.

Sandy wrote:I can give you this;

The states that recieved the most number of cars, were:-

Michigan; Pa; New Jersey; Florida; California; Illinois; Ohio and So. Carolina.

For their population, the states that received the fewest were: Texas, Georgia, Washington, New England and Nevada.

So, a bigger turnout could be expected in the first group of states. 90% of the cars STAYED within their original state.
unless you listed those states out of order, you may need to head to the doctor & get checked for Alzheimer’s.

I never said it would be easier for someone from Az to goto NJ. The very first sentence I mentioned the need for regional shows that would mean the person in Az would try to set up a show close by as well.

Why plan the show around 1 person who probably wont even bring his car? Because that one person is Sandy and it is out of respect. Next if we decide to go close by him as we are intending maybe he will bring one out. I cant blame him for not driving all three at one time though.

Your remarks on having a show in Michigan came after we decided to have a local show in our area, so if you never said yours was the be all end all show just understand how it sounds to others your timing reiterating your show.

One other thing. It isnt were the most were sold but were the most reside now btw. I bet you will find cause of the weather most of these cars went south. Also the cars were made in Michigan I would expect it to be easier for local dealers to accept the cars and even trade them out. For example. My friend recently had a Roush 440A. All cars were sent to one dealer in Florida, this doesnt mean all were sold and kept in Florida.

Hi Sandy, I was under the impression that because the Capris were cut from the hatchbacks it would be a totally different car then a Mustang sedan.
