Carpe replacement Options, Who knows what fits the 86 Conv?

Post by McDave »

I am looking to replace the carper in my 86 Convert, is there a replacement on the market? What car and year range should I ask if it fits?, 86 Capri , Convet or Coup, or 86 Mustang, same. Just looking for the floor, back is good.

I am in the same boat, I need new carpet and hope I can just use a regular Mustang carpet kit rather than buying the kit made specificaly for the McLaren, they are too expensive.

I will let you know what I find out, but looks like a 86 Capri or 86 Mustang will fit, I need to check a few measurements first

I think Sandy said one time that the Mustang vert carpetting was used.

Not sure what the differences between vert and hatch Mustang carpets are but I would imagine they are minor and probbaly most difference is towards the back...which you guys may have to cut shorter anyways since the asc is a 2 seater vert and not the 4 seater like the Mustang.

There are two manufacturers of carpet. ACC (Auto Custom Carpets) and "Trim Parts" carpets. Trim Parts is supposed to be better from what I have heard.

Contact www.foxmustangrestoration.com for the trim parts carpet. He can get you samples. He is a site sponsor for FourEyedPride.com and comes highly recommended from all who buy from him.

Was "Navy" the name you used, or that they used ? Try using "Regatta Blue" ~ that's the Ford Name for it.

The carpet manufacturers do not use the Ford/GM/Chrystler color names. They make up their own and it is up to the vendor to map their color offerings to the cars they are selling to or for the end customer to figure it out.

The way you figure out the Navy carpet you need is to ask for swatches for all their dark blues.

I know for the 85-86 Grey interiors, SILVER is supposed to be the closest match for the carpet from Trim Parts. ACC calls it light grey or something different.

I bought the ACC Regatta Blue carpet and it is a few shades lighter than blue carpet ASC used in the conversion. Their Navy was closer, but it had more of a blue-green to it when placed next to the original carpet. I kept the Regatta Blue for now since I needed something, but I will order a swatch next time...

FWIW, I have had nothing but bad luck with carpets from ACC. They either fade really bad or just dont fit correctly. I havent gotten one from trim parts yet but my next one will be from there.

ACS Dorsett carpets located in Dalton Ga seems to have the moulded OEM carpet, many colors to choose from. Web site is WWW.acsDorsettcarpet.com and they can put you in touch with a retailer in your Zip code area. All I need to do now is look at an actual color sample, they have three to choose from in a blue that apear close, Royal blue , Navy blue and dark blue that may match the original. Also several grades to choose from, 800 series and 1000 series. Anyone have any luck with this mfg?
