'88 ASC Steering wheel removal

Post by 03Mach1 »

Hey Guys. Any suggestions or tricks to getting the steering wheel off of my '88 Vert. I have a chilton book but it is referencing a steering wheel removal tool? I believe i also have to depress some pins to remove as well. any suggestions would be a big help.-Mike

I think it should be the same as my 85. There are two ways.

You can get a steering wheel puller, like $10 at autozone.

Or you can unbolt the wheel, sit in the seat and while you are pulling on the wheel really REALLY hard, have a friend whack the end of the steering column with a hammer. The wheel will usually pop right off and you will plant it squarely in your face and break your nose.

Leave the nut on

Leave the nut on the column by just a few threads and the wheel won't hit your nose.
