Guys,
Went to day 1 of the All Ford Nationals at Carlisle PA on Friday. I had been to the first one back in 1995, but have missed every one since either racing, out of the state on business, or ill. Anyway, I had agreed to meet Henry to exchange parts for cash for the McLaren, and with Cervini's to exchange cash for sheetmetal (sheet urethane? Sheet fiberglass??) for my wounded CObra.
We have got to get together and show as a group there next year!
The swap meet was even better than I remembered. Almost anything you could want was available, either used or NOS. The car corral was huge, though I think many of the prices would be coming down by Sunday afternoon. The show car area was only 1/5 full by Friday afternoon, but should have been filled by Saturday. I came across 3 McLaren's for sale, two 88's and one 86. The owners of those cars treated me like a demi-god, as I have actually met the twin gods of our niche (Sandy and Henry) at their abodes. And I was able to get the pull-down motor working on one.
Henry was very low-profile, with no displayed McLaren parts and working his butt off for his brother George, the principle behind Classic Design Concepts. Funny thing is, Henry talks a hell of a lot faster when pushing CDC wares than he does when selling McLaren parts.
Sandy, we got to get you out there to meet the masses.
Anyway, Henry traded me my cracked spoiler for a pre-painted one from ASC. Looks like it was a factory swap-out used to try out new ways to keep the studs from pulling out. Unfortunately, the driver's side inner stud has a bit too much material around it and the spoiler sits just a wee bit high (which would be unnoticeable except for the welting giving it away). It's too small a detail to sweat though. However, I got to say that ASC could have come up with a bunch of better ways to mount the third brake light. If I wasn't afraid to tear out the studs on my new spoiler, I'd remove it and rework it. As it is, if I ever decide to pull it apart and redo the entire car, I'm getting a new trunk lid and passing the wires for the light through a grommet instead of cutting the huge hole in the trunk lid by where the trunk lock cylinder was. All that is is a big water leak waiting to happen. DUMB DUMB DUMB.
Finished now, sorry for the editorial.

My 'Verts both have a rubber grommet type thingee to "plug" the hole, and THAT has a hole (tiny) for the wires to travel thru.
Hate to say it - I am STILL shopping for the right place to do the muffler! You woulda crapped. I went to a custom muffler place. He wants $150 @ hour to replace using MY muffler & strapping it. (clamp). I asked how long will it take? Answer? 'bout 2 hours" !!
I have found out that it CANNOT be welded, as they can't get to the top side to weld - no room. 3 places have told that. Only if you drop the entire exhaust (pipes, muffler, etc...) and to do so, they have to drop the axle !!
~ soooo, of all the places I've been to (a new career i.e. muffler shopping) the best one seems to have been the first one, a local Midas Muffler.
1. Has has drive-on lift. That is what I need due to a 3" clearance of the front air dam and side skirts.
2. He will strap & clamp it & guarantee his work
3. He will charge $40.00
4. I can wait for it & watch !
SOoooo, soon it will get done. I NEED TO DRIVE IT !!!!
