Yes, that engine was available here in the States, for a year or two (perhaps 3) in T-Birds, Full Size Fords & Mercury cars as well as thie intermediates. I have seen an ultra rare Mercury Cyclone Spoiler (a coupe based upon the Montego of 1970) with that engine in it.
They were potent, for sure, but the MOPARS (Dodge/Plymouth) 425 Hemis usually beat them at the track, but by less than a foot in length.
The 1960s & 1970s was the real horsepower race. EVERYBODY, even AMC -- American Motors was in the game. (Ever see a "Rebel MACHINE" ?
or an AMX ?) In 1972 it all slammed shut, like a wind blowing a door closed. 'Ya, THAT fast !!

Hi Sandy, the 427 was availalble until 68. The last year was hydraulic lifters. It was available in the cougar and mustangs too. But never sold in a mustang but many GTE cougars were sold with it. A nice fully loaded GTE with 427 is a real nice piece.

Do you mean to say absolutely no Mustang ever carried that engine ? I don't know, so I am asking. I have seen it in Montego Fastbacks and Torino Fastbacks.

I thought a limited number of 427s were put in some 1968 Mustangs.

By limited, maybe it was just a handful.

From what I understand, the 427 was available in the 1968 Mustang but the option was dropped in Dec 1967. According to Marti Autoworks, none were produced. To this day, no 'W' code Mustangs have surfaced.

Yeah I was thinking the 427 was going to fall into that category....but I couldn't remember for sure.

So technically it was offered, but there were no takers.

That is exactly what happened. Ford offered them for mustangs but nobody ever ordered one. The only mustangs and shelbys that had the 427 were dealer installed. Except for 2 Shelby installed engine with invoice to prove. Do you also know that many of the 427 Cobra (roadster) actually were 428.

Sorry! I have been out for one week.
We got RS-virus from Sweden. It is a very bad influence
with extra high fever and etc.
One week in bed without food, only water and something else to drink!
Today it is little better but still fever! :(
