Glutten for Punishment - 1985 ASC Capri Vert #246

Post by capriman86 »

Yep...just bought this thing last night, just couldn't take a chance of it going to a scrap yard or being parted. I would like to give it a chance if I can at living.

On the way home I had to stop at a pressure washer, as I couldn't take the filth. It's been sitting for 3-4yrs now with brake issues at the guys mechanics. They never got around to fixing it. So I found it on CL and the seller was a super nice guy. I hope to be able to resurrect it to at least a good driver, we will see.

Needs:
- Floors
- Brake work
- Exhaust work
- interior work
- lots of work..LOL

But for now, its in safe hands.

Here is a link to all the pics, I will keep you all update on its journey to cleanliness.

It's like saving a puppy in a kennel for a long long time,
that nobody wanted, and was going to be "put to sleep",
and and and YOU arrived to take him home and a
new life & a new beginning. I smell a Happy Ending.
So nice, I am happy for you.

Thanks!

We will see what the future brings!

Once its a little nicer out I have to figure out how to secure the back of the top down and why one side of the flippy door thing is up a bit on the passenger side.

I have not owned a vert before if you hadn't noticed.

Nice save!!
I suspect the tonneau cover problem to be just the sliding guide to be out of its slot. The top is another story. The spring is probably out of its place and the hook lever is not properly positionned.

Going to take a look at this tonneau and top when I get home.
I want to get it to close if I can.

I read there is a cord to release the tonneau? Where is that located?

Cable release is inside one of the cubby compartments in the package shelf behind the seats. Each one has a cable, one side has the fuel door release, the other has the tonneau cover release. If I remember correctly (and logic applies) the pass side cubby has the fuel door cable and the drivers side cubby has the tonneau cover cable.

I agree with Sandy on the tonneau being ajar. It looks like the pass side positioning/retaininng finger didn't get seated properly and ended up on the outside rather than the inside (it's a slidinging finger, works like 'insert tab A into slot B'). Easy to do and no repair needed, just need to open the cover and close correctly.

Thanks! I am not sure I would have checked those cubby's and actually I am scared to go in them..LOL since this car has been sitting outside for the past 3-4 years.

So hopefully the rear of the canopy with that hook will just latch in too then huh?

Thanks again!

On mine, the one on the left (driver side) is for my trunk. the one on the right is for the fuel door. I don't recall ever seeing one to release the tonneau.
Now I need to know as well.

I might be mis-remembering one of them - instead of fuel door, maybe it's trunk ... but I know one for sure is for the tonneau because I use it every time I put the top up or down (I really need to get the replacement motor, switch, and wiring installed).

If your car is like mine, the fuel filler door cable is in the trunk on pass side. The two cubic compartment have the tonneau on one side and the trunk on the other side.
